Hello all...

First post, first song. I'm quite new to making music with a DAW (about a year) and only have experience with Sonar X3, and lately Sonar Platinum.

Watched tons of tutorials, and read all I can find on "tips & tricks" for using the DAW, mixing and mastering. It's seems to me alot of the "do's and don'ts" contradicts, so it's been alot of testing. I find the mixing and getting everything ballanced to be especially challenging.

Anyway... Been following this forum for a bit, and heard alot of good stuff here in the song section. Obviously many of you have much experience, so any comment would be greatly appriciated.

Thanks!

I think it's a really good song, and your voices are enviable.
To my taste then there's way too much reverb. My advice would be to reduce the reverb significantly!
I sense that the reverb is on the master output, which makes it all gets a little unclear.
I listen to the song through the computer speakers, which may explain why I can not get all the nuances, but especially the vocals derserves to stand much more out in the song.

This song has real potential in my view.

It's good, man. The intro is a little long for my taste, but other than that the mix is crisp and full. I really like the overall vibe. More!

Thanks alot Jaro.

I only had the BT Brickwall on the master bus. The reverb I used is put on FX busses. (So my vocal track is sent to a FX bus with reverb and then to master from there.) But I will try and tone it further down like you suggest, and see how it turns out.

Just a quick clarification. "way to much reverb in general" or just on the vocals?

To my ears I would say "in general". Others may have different views.
I have some difficulties in hearing the various instruments, the guitar is the most dominant (and that`s OK, nice crispy sound) and then a little behind the guitar - the vocals. I could`nt hear any bass. It¨s about balancing the various instruments, however the use of (too much) reverb may distort this.

Just my subjective opinion, I´m in no way expert.
Hope it helps/explains

I enjoyed that very much. One thing that bugged me while listening was a left-right imbalance between the two guitars, which might be more noticeable in headphones. I was listening on speakers. I would pull the piano over to the right to offset the dominant guitar on the left.

Again, thanks to all of you for good feedback. I will try try to tweek both reverb and the left-right balance.

As for not being able to hear the basetrack I'm a bit unsure what to do. I have played the song on several different stereos with different level on the lower EQ frequenses and volume in the mix. The problem is that the difference it quite notisable depending on the unit I play from. So I ended up with a setting that sounded ok on my monitor speakers.
