I downloaded a free trail version of Sonar X2 Pro and was hoping to load Toontrack Superior drummer onto it but I can't find in in the soft synth box. Is that option not available with the trial version?

Check the Vst path in preferences and that sd is located -under that path

You need to create a scan path to the location of the superiordrummer.dll file.   It can be done both in the Preferences or the Plug In Manager.

I usually find the sp.DLL and drag it into the vst folder.

are you running 32 or 64 bit.

And once you do that, you will have to continue to do that every time you run a Superior Drummer update.  It is so much better to leave the DLL in it's installed location so that registry entries remain consistent.  If you want to install into the Cakewalk VSTplugins folder, do it in the Superior Drummer installation process.

I know, if there was an update every week, month that might be an issue for me.
never had a problem with registry entries but, I like my vst/ vst-i all in the same area.

Ok..I found the superiordrummer.dll file found. I have it listed under preferences/vst scanned folders. I cant seem to get SD to show up under preferences/midi/devices for the input and output boxes.

It is not a MIDI device, it is a soft synth. It will show up in the Browser in the plug-ins tab, instruments button. Drag it to the project to add it. It should also show up in the Insert > Soft Synth menu.
