Well regardless, I personally believe we will be able run and install Sonar on new PCs far into the future regardless of the feelings  toward Gibson.   The activation engine on Sonar is likely a VERY small part of any server community and being from IT, whenever servers are migrated and/or decommissioned, there is usually a plan to handle the applications that exist and still have active users so unless Gibson goes belly up totally and their servers are repossessed overnight, I believe that any IT shop worth anything will handle the activation software properly should the servers need to consolidate or migrate

Companies like Cakewalk put their code in escrow. When it is legally required the (activation) code will be released to the customers who deserve it. All the conspiracy theories have been presented here (in numerous threads) about how that might not happen. One way or another some on http://sonarmods.com/sonarmods/forum2017/ or www.beyondcakewalk.com will get the word out. Unless the combined membership there all miss out somehow.

Whether the code base becomes public domain is part of Cakewalk's legal requirement. And that is a separate issue from the activation code.
