Everytime I issue command 'view piano roll' or doubleclick on a midi track, it opens up already docked ... which means I can't see but an unusable portion of the midi data (like maybe just the velocity section of the window) ... so I have to undock it and spread it out.  Now if I am not overly careful when I'm dragging it about, it gets sucked back into the multidock, and I have to do it again.  Tracks that I am seriously messing with, I work with those in a new screenset, but things I might just be examining or tweaking ... well, it is REALLY annoying.  I mean like it is 4:42 AM here and I should be sleeping but I am obsessing over something I am writing, and oh no, not again, I'm sucked into a war with multidock.  And multidock is winning....

Is there any way I can disable or otherwise minimize the area of the screen where multidock tends to suck things into itself?

Is there any way I can 'view piano roll' so it does NOT open up pre-multidocked?

You can hold down the shift key when dragging windows to make sure they don't get docked.

Hi there

This has caught me out in the past, so much so I don't use the multi-dock for anything these days.

I'm guessing you have the PRV set to 'Floating', hence its readiness to dock when you try to resize it.

All you need to do is Disable Floating and then maximise the PRV.

This feature amuses me... it seems like the behavior is designed to make floating windows seem infuriating so as to justify having to set up a screen set as a solution to a problem that shouldn't be there in the first place.

Bad design.

Fortunately I have a 2nd screen that I put the Dock in.  For most purposes that works fine - it is big enough that most modules drag and drop and are still big enough.  I do wish one could re-order the modules/screens, and sometimes the prv or other screens need to be expanded.  But for 90% of operations, the timeline on one side and dock on the other work nicely.

As usual w/ software, it is coming to terms w/ the hardware/soft interface to let one work as smoothly as possible.  If I only had one screen I could see wearing out the D key on my keyboard.

toggle maximize in the dock by holding down Shift and pressing D.
this give full view of the prv and hides it with one key stroke.

Thanks for the help!!  I have two monitors, and it appears (from my limited experimentation) if I drag the multidock over to monitor2 and then take a peek at various piano rolls, that they open up over there, not on my main screen where they are (sad to say) pretty useless.  That is good.
