Thanks for the help!!  I have two monitors, and it appears (from my limited experimentation) if I drag the multidock over to monitor2 and then take a peek at various piano rolls, that they open up over there, not on my main screen where they are (sad to say) pretty useless.  That is good.

Right click on the upper eft icon on screen and select msi which will then open PRV in full screen

You can hold down the shift key when dragging windows to make sure they don't get docked.

You want to hold down CTRL not Shift. An easy mistake I sometimes make too.

I do wish that behavior was the opposite - having to hold down the modifier key to dock.

I agree.  The dock isn't too bad in TV about grabbing windows, but in Console view it drives me insane. :)

Duckbar has an option to hide the multi-dock some might find useful.

This feature amuses me... it seems like the behavior is designed to make floating windows seem infuriating so as to justify having to set up a screen set as a solution to a problem that shouldn't be there in the first place.

Bad design.

It infuriates me and is almost all of the reason why I still use 8.5.

One of my other primary tools incorporated a docking system in the early 00s. Hate, hate, hated it...until one day the proverbial light bulb went off and I seemed to understand what the developers were trying to provide. After that it became a serious infatuation and is now so incorporated into my thinking that I don't think I could live with out it...or I could but why would I?

When Cakewalk was demoing the upcoming features in X1 and I saw the multi-dock I was thinking tres magnifique amigos! Personally I love the multi-dock, it's there if I need it and I can bypass it if I want to. I can float windows if need be or I can dock them.

What I really disliked was the inability to manage all the window in 8.5. It used to drive me bonkers. If Sonar was still set up solely like that I would have moved on to a different DAW.

Just saying...
