This is a guitar track using the Octave Treble Clef.
 
If I put a dotted eighth note in the piano roll view it is displayed as a quarter note in the staff view. If I put a sixteenth note after it then it changes to a dotted eighth. If it is the last quarter of a measure it should just add a sixteenth rest, but it does not. In the piano roll view the duration is 720. I tried changing it to 750 and 0.750, that did not help.
 
Also, the TAB view keeps changing the notes back to the lowest string. I open the properties of the note in piano roll view and when I change the string the fret changes automatically, but it does not save it.

In the menu, uncheck "Fill Duration". I'm pretty sure that's it.

Yes, that’s what it was. I saw that setting, but I thought that it meant it would fill in the rests not more notes.

Glad you got it solved.  There is also a Display Resolution setting that can mess you up.

Yes, now that you mention it I can see that if the notes get too close together it messes it all up.
