I have a guitar track and in the Staff View the Tab is displaying the notes on the lowest number string. I open the properties of the note in piano roll view and when I change the string the fret changes automatically, but it does not save it when I click ok.

this may have something to do with the way the Tablature is set up.

go to Staff View > Edit > Layout > Define
 
from within you may redefine the way notes are displayed on the fret board. most keyboards and VST instruments are setup differently in terms of their transposed positions.

Yes, that did it. I set the Method to Fixed, changed the Lowest Fret and it moved the box up and down. I also noticed the size of the box changes by changing the Finger Span.
