I know my Guitar Center Sales Personnel by name and really like them. When I come in on lunch breaks with a CD to listen to, they wave and give fist bumps and send me into the monitor room to try the mix on all the monitors. We've even talked about doing a white noise test in their monitor room to assess EQ Settings (haven't gotten there yet). They're great. And they definitely don't have a bad word about anything I'm up to... least of all Sonar, a DAW they sell!! I got my RME there. I buy locally when I can. I'm very grateful for all of them (thanks GC people!!).

You're reminding me of the song Shakedown Street...

Don't tell me this town aint got no heart... just gotta poke around.

And you might be gentle with your credentials while seeking help... they'll just make people want to charge you more. (friendly tip).

4 GB is what I used for years on dual core laptop. It wasn't great, to tell the truth. Will you augment with midi? If so, consider going up to 8 GB Ram.

But frankly, since you are mixing offline, it's just a matter of how long it will take you to bounce it. You can do it with your current machine, it'll just take longer than something faster. That's all.

I don't know... you got a slot open? Oh wait... you're using a 32 bit OS. Not worth the trouble then. Stick with your 4 GB until you can come up to speed. 8 GB on a 32 bit OS doesn't do you any good. Heck, the four is barely usable in its entirety and you will probably be unable to access most (half?) of it while you bounce your tracks.

In your specs you say you have a 32bit OS. Any RAM over 4G would be inaccessible
