  • X2 file: Session drummer no sound

Hi all,

This is a new-to-me problem that I've never had to troubleshoot before.  I've imported a file from X1 into X2 - and I had a full Session Drummer track that worked in X1 but now has no sound.

So I assume its a signal flow issue, but I don't know where to start looking.

Are you sure it is an audio issue?  Could it be an issue with midi?

Could there be a difference in midi channels, between the track's events and the drum module?

Also, are you seeing any meters move on playback?

Can you detail the routing assignments and the track setups?

If you select the midi track and trigger some events (keyboard controller or drum pad or whatever), do you get sound and/or midi activity out of SD?

Bob,

Yeah I was wrong I misspoke, it's probably a midi issue.    I've checked Session Drummer in the new file that I imported.  No sound when I load any kit, or tap on the pads with my mouse.

I'll close the file and open a different X2 project - and SD will be fine in that one.   So I don't know what to look for.

also, no meters move on the SD track (of the file in question) - checked muting and soloing.  still nothing.

So click on the Midi track (the one with the meters moving) and check to see if it is outputting to an instance of Session Drummer.

Open the Session Drummer soft synth and make sure you have a drum kit loaded. When it is working properly, you should be able to click on the images of the drums and hear the sound for that drum.

thanks I'll check that out.

One thing I did notice is that when I loaded different kits (in this particular file that was imported from X1) - the drums were kinda "grayed out" and did not play when I clicked them.

Perhaps it isn't finding the kit you had loaded in X1? Not sure... maybe relative paths are causing a glitch. If you map to a valid drum program, perhaps it will suddenly snap into place.

After you have opened Sonar do not hit play. Open SD3 and click on the kit pieces and see if they make sound. If they do hit play. If they do not play anymore, it's probably an RPN or NRPN causing the issue. If this is the case, open the Event View and make it so only the RPNs and NRPNs are showing. Then delete them. Though it should not be this since it worked in X1. I'm just offering another possible.

I think I might have an overall MIDI problem.   I imported some MIDI files of strings from Finale into this project - and they didn't play either.

So somehow I don't have any MIDI playback capability at all...

Let's go back to the top. Have you stepped through the sonar midi demo to make sure you've got the basics?
