  • Session Drummer: Change where it looks for data (p.2)

Session Drummer should be installed in C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\VST Plugins...There should be several sub-folders (Contents, Resources, Documentation, etc.,) within the main folder...Within the "Contents" folder reside several other sub-folders that include the .sfz files, the .wav files, the kit files, the .prog files, etc.,)....

I think I'll email tech support about this.  It's a Cakewalk branded product of Smart Loops content.  And what I really want is to use it in Session Drummer 3, though I'll still have to get around the same issue, regardless.  The automatic install parameters have some "gaps" in their data assumptions - if one chooses a different default VST location other than the Cakewalk default.

Session Drummer 2 & 3 are installed in "C:Program Files\VSTplugins" with every other VST I have.  Again, EVERYTHING works fine EXCEPT this expansion pack.

Session Drummer 2 (and 3) locates its contents via a registry key...

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cakewalk Music Software\SessionDrummer2\Contents Folder

This defines the path where the "Contents" directory resides.  Note that this is where Session Drummer looks for a directory named "Contents"...meaning...you can change the location of the Contents directory, but you can't change it's name.

(On my system, the Contents directory is in C:\Music\Plugins\VSTi\Cakewalk\Session Drummer 3.)

I'm thinking your best bet is to let the Hip Hop thing install where it thinks it must...and then move it to where the registry tells Session Drummer where it should be...inside the Contents folder...wherever it is on your system.

Dan, you may have given me the magic bullet; we'll see. I'm going to investigage, maybe make some mods and report back.

Dan, I found the exact paths you described for both Session Drummer 2 & 3 and the paths are correctly named for my default VST folder - the one this expansion pack will not look in.

Is this failing in SD2 and SD3?

This sounds vaguely familiar, so here's a long shot. Try pressing [F5] with the SD browser open and see if that helps.

I might be thinking of another synth, but it can't hurt.

F5 will indeed refresh the browser, but if the "destination folder" is somewhere else other than where CW/SD expects it to be I don't think that will accomplish anything...

That's what sounded familiar -- that the browser didn't auto-refresh, even though you'd think it would after installing a new pack. As I said, it can't hurt!
