Please explain your reasoning behind changing the default folder of "native" Cakewalk plugins?

OK, PROBLEM SOLVED!  Rather than fight with Sonar, I:

1) Created a VSTplugins folder under Cakewalk in the Programs folder.
2) Moved the Session Drummer 2 folder & all its contents from my default vstplugins folder (where I think I may have manually moved it long ago, probably having something to do with my problems).
3) Using the Cakewalk Plug-in Manager, added the new VST folder I created within the Cakewalk folder.
4) Rescanned all VST's.
5) STILL DIDN'T WORK!
6) So I took Dan's cue from above, used Regedit to change the contents path to my newly created folder, AND...
7) All works perfectly!

Interestingly, Session Drummer 2 has disappeared as an available plug-in, which is fine with me, even though its .dll file is still in the Session Drummer 2 folder.

Also, when I "F5" refresh my program list from within Session Drummer 3 the Hip Hop expansion pack is now in the top level hierarchy of choices.  Cakewalk's internal tools placed all the expansion pack programs right in front of my face even though they are in a different directory from the Session Drummer 3 folder. Thanks, Cakewalk!

Thanks to you for all the assistance!

Papa2005, I changed the default folder because I use Ableton Live more than Sonar and I wanted a "neutral" folder location, with at least one less level of folder depth, for all my plugs. I use several of Cakewalk's instruments & audio effects in Live, too.  And most 3rd party plugs have a Steinberg folder default and I don't want to manage multiple VST folders if I can avoid it.

That's the kinda attitude that creates the problems you've been experiencing...Some things are best left not to be mucked about with...In your case, it was Session Drummer...As I mentioned in an earlier post, there is a "rhyme and reason" behind CW's VST plugin structure...It's best left alone (even if you are using other DAW apps)...

Mostly because I'm obsessive compulsive.  Partly because "I can".

Yeah, well maybe you know a lot more about what you're doing than some (if not most) users do...OCD or not, you're asking for trouble when you mess with the default settings of some plugins...

I have experienced almost no problems with my single VST plugins folder.  I figure the various product applications installers ask me where I want to install their plug because they care what I think.   Session Drummer 3 works fine in Live - though I rarely use it - as do most of Cakewalk's instruments and effects - if they're VST's.  True Pianos won't because it's a Cakewalk only special deal.

I am actually grateful to Cakewalk for their rather "open systems" approach in allowing many of their instruments and effects to be used outside Sonar.  It adds value to their products and helps justify, to me, continuing to re-up with each new version of Sonar.

I remember now...  If I have all my VST's in one directory structure (including VSTi's) then WaveLab has a cow when it scans the VSTi's.  So I had to put all my instrument plugs in a separate directory structure.  Besides that...I really don't like the "dogpile" organization and would rather keep things nicely categorized.

I installed Digital Sound Factory Acoustic Kits for Session Drummer 3 and it did not show up in the SD3 Program Browser. I pressed F5 and it refreshed. I had no idea that it would do that. Now I know that I can move a program or create a new folder and just press F5. I installed the free Platinum Samples Legends Kit 3 a while back and it was bugging me that it was automatically installed in the Acoustic folder with the original SD3 programs.

Thanks Susan G and Papa!
