I was reading a thread that Ryan was contributing to and was talking about the Knowledge Base as a good place to search out known problems. So I decided to go look at some things there, and got sidetracked when I saw the Hardware Set-Up Guide. I was curious and looked up what was recommended for the Tascam, as well as Line 6.

The Tascam was recommended to use WDM, and Line 6 it was ASIO. Then I started to think about a problem I have had since Sonar 7 in regards to the setting of the timing master. Because I have to have the Line 6 DI hooked up basically as a dongle so I can use their software, what has always happened is the Line 6 always shows up as the timing master. I have went in and changed it to the Tascam US1800, then applied, but it always keeps the Line 6.

This happened in Sonar 7, 8, 8.5, X1, X1 extended, and X2 and X2a. Prior to getting a Tascam US1800 I was using a Lexicon Lambda, so not until having X2 did I have the Tascam. So I have been having some pretty heavy CPU hits in X2a running under windows 8, and I am trying to look at all things that may be holding me back from a great experience. The timing master thing has not seemed to be a show stopper in the past, but this can not be good to send conflicting messages to the software. I have disabled the Line 6 before and have setup my primary sound card at the time (Lambda or US1800) and can get the timing master to except either of those, and have it stick. But as soon as I bring the Line 6 DI back online so I can use the software, the Line 6 DI again takes over automagicly as the timing master.

Any thoughts out there as to how I might go about trying to correct this? It can't be good like this.

You can't run ASIO driver at the same time as a WDM.

You can run WDM with other WDM audio cards and set the timer but you can't run ASIO with a WDM and set timers.

Good luck.

Maybe I should go in and edit the registry in Sonar and take out all mentions of the Line 6 since all it is being used as is a dongle for the software to work.

Can't you just deselect the device in preferences?

It is not selected in the preferences. This is what is maddening. I can select US 1800 or what ever, press apply, and when I open back up preferences, Sonar has selected the line 6 usb device. Anyone with any thoughts on this?

Sorry to all that were confused by my post as I have called this all wrong.
When I go to preferences, then select sync and caching, what I am trying to change is the "record latency adjustment" (samples).
This is what Sonar keeps selecting the Line 6 DI for. Is this a problem that I should be concerned about?

So I have seen many posts saying post your problems so we can help.
I have done so, but I guess my problem may be a bit more technical than which drum program to choose.
Thanks to those that offered suggestions. My next stop should be with Cakewalk I think.
