...I still like Cakewalk but with no development and upgrades I unfortunately must move on.

I'm curious... What is the rush from everyone to "move on" from Sonar? If you have a working DAW with hardware in good condition, simply "freeze" your OS/Software installs in place, take a backup image of your install drive, and go on with your day. Whatever version of Sonar that you own will continue to work so long as you have hardware and an OS that can run it... There is no reason to update a working install of Windows on a DAW, (which can cause issues), or rush out to get a new DAW tommorow...

Not everyone, Sonar is working perfectly, up to date and in great shape, it is still alive althought some people want to bury it alive asap. I will be using it at least for another year.
No need to freeze the OS, at least for me. For instance, I installed sonar x3 on win10 and It was working perfectly. some say sonar 8.5 is still working on win10.

Adaptive Limiter,... Don't hold your breath, though; it's still a valuable asset to Gibson and another company might want to buy it.

That is my guess as well.  But I do believe they should do this for anybody who either bought the Sonar4Life version or was on the monthly/annual subscription and was paid up at the time when Cakewalk pulled the plug.  I'm sure nobody is going to sue them, but it would be a nice and appropriate gesture, IMHO.

Personally, I am not going to create any new projects in SONAR because I don't know how long it will keep working.  I have the full version of StudioOne, and I'll simply start using that for everything as I continue to look at other DAWs.

I am sure we al have dozens hundreds, or even thousands of SONAR projects.  There will come a day when you cannot open these.  There are probably 25 of those where I will want to carry them forward into another DAW, so over time I guess I will manually pull the MIDI from SONAR and build it into another DAW.  I can re-mix using the tools in whatever DAW I use, but I don't want to lose that MIDI.

Exactly like you, cparmerlee. I will use another DAW for my new projects, and try to import the rest with MIDI in another DAW. Certainly Cubase, because of its position on the market and the chord track.

Not only should they unlock them, they should severely discount any and all sound packs for any and all Cakewalk Instruments.....

Sonar is dead time to let it go. That is just reality. You are risking losing all your projects when the server goes down.

The reason why cakewalk went under. Was because of us and are strangle hold on the product. If they tried new things alot of us would get mad. We made sonar exclusive in an open market what would have been best would have been for the product to be open to a market. I seriously believe Sonar became the old mans DAW. Younger more succesful people use other DAWS and wouldnt touch Sonar. The you tube videos appeal only to old people the use of intro music on their videos was awful. I complained about this and all was said is our customers like the choice of music. I said you are trying to get new customers not retain the old. The strangle hold was too much and Gibson had to let it go. Sorry to say but we killed Sonar cos of our old ways and didnt embrace change. Just like the post im staying with Sonar and no other DAW compare posts. In reality more producers are succesful using other DAWS and they dont use them because they stumbled across it. They use them because of how they can use their super talent.

Why keep flogging a dead horse. Move on life is too short to hold on to a horse that won't ride. Cos it is dead.

It has become a truism that the "power of the DAW" has mostly migrated from the basic DAW platform to the collection of plug-ins (instruments and effects).  The bad news is there will probably never be a way to open an old SONAR project under another DAW.  The next best thing, IMHO, would be for all the VSTs to be available in whatever DAW we have to move on to.  I am thinking of things like Adaptive Limiter, Rapture Pro etc.

I don't know whether these VSTs are open or locked at this point.  But if they are locked to where they can only run under SONAR, it seems the least Cakewalk/Gibson should do is make this technology freely available to all paid-up SONAR users.

Cakewalk isn't going to do anything for you or any other cakewalk sonar user.
You have heard from Presonus/Cubase/Overloud etc.  But nothing from cake/sonar except goodbye.
Not looking for anything from them, and whatever they come up with, unless it's free . they can keep it. Sonar Platinum is mine, i paid for it. The rest from cakewalk is whatever. Craig gave a tip on how to unlock and or use some plugs in other daw's, but cake hasn't give anything but a goodbye so sorry, figure it out on your own.
No tears for them, and i dont expect any tears for me from them.
It is what is is.
Not patronizing (spending any dollars on )anything gibson, for sure.
