Peter, you were right in your OP: you are indeed in good company on that podcast. I enjoyed the whole thing, and also grabbed the previous episode while I was there.

"Landscape Burning" is a great production, a superb mix and a tasty tune. Love it, herbally-enhanced or not. If those drums are real, they are extraordinarily well-recorded; if programmed, they are exceptionally well-programmed. Either way, good job!

Is that you on lead vox? Sure got a cool classic 70's vibe going on there. The female vocalist is superb, too. The vocal mix is just about perfect in every regard. For that matter, I like the whole mix; it's dynamic, nothing's overly effected or compressed, everything has its own spectral turf, the panorama is wide and deep, every voice and instrument can be clearly heard, even in the busy parts. Kudos to the mixer.

Thanks bitflipper, I appreciate the comments very much.  I must admit I feel good about the mixing I did on this album.  At the end I needed a sanity check, especially on the drums, and I asked a friend, who's worked several years in studios in L.A., to come over to my studio and help ensure that it was "master-ready".  That helped me wrap up things in a timely manner as well as bounce ideas of someone else at the final hurdle, because the rest of the solo album I relied on my own judgment for composing, recording, mixing, and that was liberating enough.

I did spend hours listening to the mixes I made in a variety of places:  the car, the stereo setup, iPod, headphones, you name it;  always making sure everything could be heard the way I wanted it.  I'm glad it came out that way in your head too ;-)

Hey Peter, I finally got to listen to your stuff and I have to say well done! Nice mixes and good material and did hear some Steve Hackett influence on the electrics? Way to go!

Thanks Steve H.   And what might the H. stand for, hehe.

I definitely like Steve Hackett's stuff, and he seems to be making a comeback after a couple of suspect albums a decade or so ago, but I'm also very much into Mike Oldfield as well as Gilmour/Howe.   I never set out to sound or play like anyone though, but I'm sure the influences creep in.  I enjoy the comparison but the best compliment I got was from a well-known bassist in the local genre that said I had a very unique voice.   But Hackett is good for me too ;-)

I recorded this album entirely in Sonar (several versions).  I'd say it's fairly prog-a-licious.

Currently working on a follow up.

Nice going -- very "prog-a-licious".  It's fun to see the music set to video too.

I have a couple of live videos up on youtube too that feature my band here in Southern California that, to be honest, are really more proggy than my own music (which tends to stray into jazz and folk).

Here are a couple of live songs with my band Gekko Projekt in a club in Los Angeles:

Particle Dance (live in L.A. 2012)
Martian Sunrise (live in L.A. 2012)

Bye to all,
Giorgio

Very nice Giorgio, please let us know if your gigs ever extend to California -- would love to see your Genesis tribute act.  I saw The Musical Box play the entire Lamb show in L.A. recently and was stunned at how good they were.  I never used to like the idea of tribute bands, but I have to tip my hat to a few that I've seen and the necessary kind of time, effort and love of it.

Kind regards
Peter

Hello, we are not a tribute band (we have our own music) but we play Genesis music often in our shows as well (anyway our style is quite similar.... people says).

I don't think that we are planning to come in California ... sorry (we usually come to USA/Canada every year, but usually on the east side...)...

Anyway ... who knows...
Thanks and regards,

Giorgio

Love ProgRock, ever since Return to Forever's "Romantic Warrior," although I'm not sure that belongs in the genre (more like jazz-rock?).  My band is also inspired by Prog, but we lack the virtuoso musicianship of your band and most others in the genre.  Not sure if we count, either, because of that.  (Some of our Sonar-recorded tunes are coming out soon!)

Thanks for the link!
