Richard is correct. Any soft synth parts need to be frozen first.
You do not need to Freeze first but you do need to select both the VST's Audio track and it's MIDI track.

It would be more intuitive if Sonar figured out it had to play the MIDI on the associated MIDI track when bouncing a VST audio track but it isn't a big deal to have to manually select it.

It does that already. Right-click on the vst audio track and select freeze. NO need to select the MIDI track and the audio track. Freeze and bounce are the same thing, really.

If you select the midi track, Sonar selects the softsynth automatically-I do that all day everyday>

I've always used the Freeze, UnFreeze method.

Ditto. Unless you insert the synth via a "non-traditional" method. For example, if you have a MIDI track pointed to one output and then change it to a different synth later I think you have to select both tracks, since the automatic connection is broken. I can't swear to that, and I can't check right now, but I'm pretty sure that's true.

If you change the softsynth a MIDI track points to you still have to go to the MIDI track and point it to the new softsynth to get the MIDI track to play the new softsynth anyway, so the automatic connection is re-established. So there's no problem with freezing the new situation - you can do the freeze by either selecting the MIDI track or the softsynth track; you don't have to select both. I do this a whole lot, so I know it works (Sonar Producer 8.3.1).

If you have your Sonar 6 manual available - look at page 126 "To convert your soft synth tracks to new audio tracks"  it's all there for you.

Excellent! I can't test this right now, but I believe you, of course!

Doing it right now as I type this on another computer. I'm working on the Miniature Overture from Nutcracker. Changed some of the softsynths I had playing some of the string parts from Sampletank 2.5XL to the EWQLSO violins and such in playing in Kontakt 2. After I did the change I re-pointed the MIDI tracks to the new Kontakt 2 instances and now I've got them freezing. My daw is quite down on resources so it take's it own sweet time (but it works okay for now).

Got to go as the tracks are done freezing.

Playing now and it sounds pretty good but the whole track still needs work. Hoping to have the full suite done for Christmas - I only started this last year!

Hi guys,

I'm trying to convert a soft synth event to an audio track.
I mute all tracks except the one to bounce, select the
track and marking a range on the ruler but I can't bounce
it because it says that there's no audio selection...
Anyone can help on this please?????

You missed 1 step.
Select the audio in the track you want to bounce.
