  • Yet another thread about the current lack of an X2b (p.6)

Given the discontent for many surrounding X2, I would be AMAZED if they had the cheek to release a paid upgrade aka X3 before releasing patches for X2 to actually iron out the many known and well documented bugs. How its taken them so long to address this can only be down to re-structuring the company as noted by someone in a previous post..... or at least I hope so, they seem pretty decent guys so im sure there is an explanation.... not that we will ever hear it.
You can bet your backside if the next release ends in 3 and not b then you will be asked to pay for the privilege. I for one can't see that happening, not only would that be morally wrong, it would also encourage many of the already disenchanted people to jump ship for good.
The fact that X2 and its reliability seems to depend just as much on the way you work within it as it does with its hardware compatibilities is a little disconcerting for me. I truly hope that Roland doesn't see cakewalk as an insignificant fish in the sea, because it is a great DAW for all it's faults and needs to be fully realised. If that happens, I can't see any other software touching it.

Man... what is up with the formatting today?

Seems the formatting is kind of borked....weird stuff

I agree with you about the whole thing...the X2 here seems to be giving me the willies sometimes...especially with the selecting clip thing....

Yes, all software has bugs.  But a company that communicates with its customers to continuously improve a product already in hand is one that gets my support.

Yes - Not only did it get my support but my dollars as well. [And many more times over it would appear.]

Their share of $369.99 in fact, which, in my case, will have encompassed Cake's next [usual] asking price of another $99.00.

If Cake now or even in the next few months came out and asked for another $99.00, I'd have no choice but to think to myself, "Gee, I just dropped $370 elsewhere.

Think I'll pass this time around, and just see how happy the Buds are on the forums instead - those who went for it & tried it out, that is."

It's like a project starts to slowly corrupt over time.

I've made this exact same point on a number of occasions. Weird stuff starts happening in a project over time and then you lose your confidence in it because you're always worrying what in the hell is going to screw up next. I've actually had to abandon a couple of projects and painstakingly import everything into a new project because they got so screwy. One recent symptom of a corrupting project that I've mentioned on here is when selecting a range of contiguous clips with SHIFT just spontaneously stops working in certain tracks. The SHIFT key then takes on the function of the CTRL key, in that I can only use it to select multiple clips individually. Not a good sign when basic clip selection doesn't work properly, for sure.

The maintenance updates by Steinberg are much more frequent. Nuendo 6.0.0 was released a few months ago and today  6.0.5 was released. The same applies to Cubase 7, maintenance update 7.0.5 is now available.
So where is the Sonar X2b maintenance update?

The same is Reaper. Cakewalk just did not catch the change in SW industry. Even the freewares like Jeskola Buzz (with one or two developers working for fun) have changed its software release cycle:

At least they haven't been devoting time and manpower to developing and promoting a set of shiny new 'paid for' Pro Channel modules instead of sorting out X2b ................... oh ..........

Seriously though. Even the most vocal of you in complaining about the lack of an X2b update (or even some sort of mission statement from Cakewalk), and those threatening to jump ship to another DAW, will still buy X3. Even if it came out tomorrow.

We must be, without doubt, the most loyal and devoted group of customers of any product I can think of. And Cakewalk know it.

I have been for many years, as you know Steve.
That changed.
I've stated that Cakewalk put me on a fence and I've been on it for way, way to long...they have one shot to keep me using their product.

A couple of reasons I don't jump ship now is because they've been faced with major changes and I do believe that they are working hard to recover. It's just up to them to recover with a great comeback. I think they will but I don't base that on loyalty.
I also think, if they don't...they lose and I do too because starting over with a new host isn't my desire.

Why to publish free bug fixes, when we can sell you a new product. I think that Cakewalk is completely under the control of marketing department.

Personally I would not buy anything before Cakewalk starts to publish regular bug fixing releases.

StudiousYou are far from alone in feeling abandoned by Roland/Cakewalk.  It is the main reason many have recently switched to competing software, and why many more are on the verge of doing the same.

I'm one of the '99' as well. My Q7 just arrived last night, and I'm just about to unwrap it. Am I done with Sonar? As stated in another post - 'No'...but...while I'm waiting for Sonar to grace us with one of their well kept secrets, be it an update, upgrade, new version, bankruptcy, whatever, I'll be working with, learning, & getting very used to a competitors DAW. Now...the longer Cake takes - it only stands to reason - the more comfortable I'll be getting 'over there', and may not necessarily want to come back. Ask me then if I'm done with Sonar. I may be. Who knows? - time will tell. In the meantime, I, and it looks like a number of others will be wading into different waters - different ripples - different waves - and a whole new, different temperature.

I been with CW since version 2.2 and I too have just ordered cubase 7 , never thought I would leave CW
