Hi all,
I haven't posted a new song in a while but figured it was time for something different...  No time signature changes, synths or world instruments this time around, just a fairly straight-ahead rock song.  And I finally put my big-boy pants on and recorded some vocals for the first time in... well, quite a while.        Hopefully it comes across OK!

Edit: I just uploaded a remixed version to the same location.  I used everyone's input to try and bring the vocals forward without necessarily making them "pop" loud, so hopefully this is better.

Things I changed: Lowered the direct signals for the snare, kick and toms, added some volume envelope edits to the lead vocals, added a reverb send with a different (and "clearer") Rematrix IR to the vocal bus, and finally, used MDynamicEQ to have the vocal bus compress the guitar bus using three key frequency ranges.

OK, nice! Your melody choices are unconventional and it comes across (to my ears) as a mix between some '50's doo-wop, and early Genesis (Lamb) - not in the content, but the quirky structure. Definitely different and a good effort I think!

Mix-wise, I think your electric guitar kind of buries the clarity of your vocal, which you might push forward a tad.

I liked the suddenly nutty piano part, a cool add.

thanks for the share!
cheers

Thanks for sharing! Your vocals are buried a bit and it's hard to understand the lyrics. I like the song!

@ Tom - thanks for listening.   I wouldn't have thought 50's doo-wop or early Genesis, but I can certainly accept the latter.     I guess it does make a difference when one already hears the vocals despite their level in the mix, so I'll need to go back with fresh ears.   I'll leave the piano nuts as-is.

@ Bayou - thanks!  That's two votes for the vocals being a bit buried so I'll have to rethink where they are.   I guess not having recorded vocals for a few years has that unintentional side-effect...

In my opinion it seems that the kick and snare and toms are overpowering the rest of the the mix.

I like the tune.

Nice guitar work.

Toward the end to vocals seem a bit covered up.

As noted the mix could do with a few tweaks, to me the Vocal actually sounds in a different space to the rest which may be why it is sounding a tad on the buried side.

Thanks for sharing will keep any eye out for the remix.

@Tom - thanks, I appreciate the reply.  I do like the Black Velvet kit so it may have factored into the levels...     I'll have to do a bit of review/tweaking there as well.   The guitars are all using Craig's new FX Chains!

@Wookie - thanks, furry dude.   I can certainly back off a little on the reverb + delay on the vocals to see if there is more cohesion with the instruments.  Technically they were recorded in a different space since they're live, but you're not supposed to know that.

@Gary - thanks!  I appreciate that.
