  • Has Anyone Else Got The Email For The New Mixbus 32C?

I just got the email a little while ago. It's supposedly based on the 32 series consoles from 40 years ago. It kinda sounds like Mixbus 3 with 4 more stereo busses. Just wondering what everyone's opinion is on this.

It is being discussed on the Harrison Mixbus forum.  Besides the extra 4 busses, there is a different eq that the 32c has, which is modeled on the Harrison 32c consoles eq.

If it's based on the 32c console then it's probably going to be built with whole new modeling algorithms right? Because the regular Mixbus is based on the digital DSP that Harrison developed in the 90's, which was meant to recreate the classic Harrison sound with digital chips. I wonder how much of the regular Mixbus code is just ported from their digital chips from the 90's? If they've modeled an older console though they would have to write new routines from the ground up though?

Also, I note that in the email they say "the world renowned Harrison 32C analog console was used on records by Michael Jackson “Thriller", Paul Simon “Graceland," which is exactly what they said for the regular Mixbus. So I think using Thriller and Graceland in the blurb for the original Mixbus was a bit of a stretch, since it's based on the DSP they developed for the 90's model consoles - I guess their reasoning was that that DSP was intended to model the sound of the earlier analog consoles, so you're getting a kind of "modeling twice removed" from Thriller and Graceland, whereas this new Mixbus is based on the real deal. Are we confused yet?

My only concern is that the recommended minimum screen resolution height is 1200.  I own three 27" monitors, and none of them meet that minimum.

yeah, I'm confused ... and that monitor limitation is odd (well, 32C was a tall console, but if I need a monitor the size of the console it may be a bit of a drawback). IMHO it does not need to look exactly like the old 32C (never saw more than a few pictures) and it does not need to sound exactly like it (it just needs to sound good and not just sum 1s and 0s) - which they claim for 3.3 already ...

I put 32c on my 27" (1920x1080) and the controls were a tad small. Not unusable but def squintable.

On my 30" (2560x1600) the mixer is almost perfect.

I imagine on a 17" laptop screen it would become unusable for me. I do not have plans to use it that way, so no biggie.

I paid for the upgrade of Mixbus 3 and I thought I would be good to go until Mixbus 4. Now they bring out Mixbus 32C. And then want $149 for the program. I find this a bit discouraging. I paid for one upgrade and it will probably be the last.

I have had nothing but driver problems on my desktop rig with ver. 3 and Sonar getting along. They seem to work fine on my laptop. This makes it not worth upgrading for me. Very sad, because I do love tracking and mastering in 3.3. The sound is great but not worth spending more money on software that creates nothing but headaches. Maybe when they iron out the problems with Studio-Capture drivers I will consider bumping up but for now I will stay where I'm at!!!
