  • Not Finding my VST Plug Ins...

Hi guys.

I used to use Home Studio 7XL on an old computer.
I then upgraded to a new machine.
I installed Sonar X2 Producer on the new machine.
I installed all of my synths.
I pointed Sonar X2 in the direction of the synths and it found them - all fine.
I then realised Sonar X2 is RIDDLED with bugs and after 3 months of hell, decided to install Home Studio 7XL on my new machine, just so I can use something more stable.
I am attempting to point Home Studio in the direction of the synths but it won't find a SINGLE one. Only the stuff that is already installed with Home Studio.
I am using the EXACT process as usual. (I can describe this process if need be, but it worked all the other times on both my old machine and with Sonar X2 on my current new machine).

I am wondering if it may be a problem with my new machine having Windows 7 64 Bit?
I'm stuck.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Dave

To be more specific, it won't find Predator, Z3ta2, and Melodyne. Those are the things I've purchased separately. I can easily find the dll locations but it's just not adding them to the list once I've scanned the location.

Sonar x2 finds them; home studio doesn't. Anyone?

If your old machine was 32 bit, the VSTs are in a folder of different name in your 64 bit machine.
In a 64 bit system 32 bit plugins are (or should be) in a folder with addition "x86". Could that have something to do with the problem?

Hi Thanks, I've tried moving all Predator files to the x86 folder but that still doesn't find it...

Could it be that I have installed 64 bit versions of the programs on my new machine and home studio doesn't recognise them? ?

32bit hosts will not see 64bit plug-ins unless you use jBridge. Better to install the 32bit versions of the plug-ins.

Would that involve un installing the current versions?

No, it should be OK to have both versions installed. If given the option, install the VST portion of the plug-ins in different directories, one for 32bit (ex. "C:\Program Files (x86)\Cakewalk\Vstplugins") and another for 64bit (ex. "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Vstplugins").
