Many thanks to all the Cakewalk team and many helpful forum members...

The survey and other goings on have been both welcome and "scary"...

Scary in the sense that I feel an undertow of another skipped release... I pray (non religiously) that I'm way off base...

My apologies to all for yet another X2b plea an panic...

It's  ok to talk about scary things.
It makes them less scary :-)

I really wish cakewalk would fix all issues in a release before moving forward on a new paid for release. It's been my main concern with cakewalk for a long time.

For instance, it was well known that there was issues with the old track lanes that were not resolved release after release after release.

The implementation of mute automation as a separate control and not writable from a control surface is another one. Mute automation should work like any other automatable control in console view. Seems most cohesive and logical.

Then there is the issue of breaking control surface support with every new release. This should have been taken care of before moving to a new release. Cakewalk completely has ignored these issues release after release and I think they are paying for it now. Not the customers.

I realize the company has to make money on a new release. But losing customers is also a way of losing money.

I worry too Keni. It's so hard to predict what's going on in Cake land. Was the new forum something to soothe the masses in lieu of an update? Who knows.

I can see some logic in what they are doing. For example, layers were not perfect but why spend a penny on making them perfect when you know the next release will feature take lanes. It doesn't matter what happens to those using a feature that will never be worked on again.

We all may be waiting for improvements to a certain feature we value. Cakewalk may decide that 2 releases out , the feature will be gone or replaced by something different. We are all making guesses as to what's really going on.

Tell me that would not alleviate nearly ALL the current customer griping and ship-jumping.  To be clear, I made up the quote.  But how has this NOT been put out?  The lack of communication from Roland/Cakewalk is a serious problem.  I think it is their #1 bug.

I will not pay for fixes to X2. They will either have to include some serious plugins I want (I mostly upgraded to get R-Mix and along with that and TH2 the hundred bucks was worth it) or release a patch for X2 before X3. Otherwise I will just install Reaper to cover the the things Sonar isn't doing for me and save up for Cubase. Paying for a new release seems silly because then there will just be a bunch of new problems that need to be patched and I'm not falling into that cycle. I'd still use X2 for the things I like about it which is plentiful but I've hit far too many walls when I try to make it do more complex functions.

Sorry, Cake. Business is business. Money is money. Time is time. You could have a loyal customer for life if you simply make it work. Please make it work. Go through every feature in the manual and test it. If it doesn't work, fix it or remove it. By page 700 I had about a 20% failure rate.

Don't mean to be negative and I'm sure you guys are whipping up a patch as we speak but there it is... from a new and hopeful customer starting to lose patience and interest. Heck... put 8.5 back up for sale and let us newcomers download it free/cheap. Maybe that would solve some problems.

Cheers.

Because of the loss of confidence of some of their customers like me, who get a little tired of half-ready releases etc.

I've been looking carefully at studio One and will make the move at the end of the month. They don't seem to have all these issues, seems rock stable, the workflow seems to be by far the most though through from all the daws on the market, and when you give reasons for your customers to start investigating the competitions, variably they will.

So, who is not blaming Steinberg for selling a Cubase 7 before fixing all the issues in Cubase 6.
Same can be said for Propellerhead Reason, I suppose.

Then. Did Microsoft make a blunder with Vista, then made us pay for Widows 7? ...and so on, and so on...

If I buy Cubase and Steinberg pulls the same thing I'll be equally disappointed but at least I'll have two platforms to work with which will, combined, hopefully do everything I need. Point is if X2 can't perform as is and there isn't a fix then I have to figure something else out. It's not a matter of vindictiveness. It's a matter of I need to do certain things. I used to run Steinberg stuff and although I used it at a very basic level it never EVER so much as hiccuped.

I love X2... but certain parts of it just do not work. When it's a part I need that becomes a problem.
