The software industry is the only industry that does not have to have a complete product at the point of sale.  Windows has had a couple of bugs that were there in Windows 3.0 and are still there at Windows 8. It's the nature of the beast.

What bugs are still in Windows 8 from Windows 3?

Out of curiosity what bugs are in Windows 8 from Windows 3?

I don't mind limiting the number of times I reinstall the software. Give me what's next when it is ready.

"Did Microsoft make a blunder with Vista, then made us pay for Widows 7?"

I couldn't not respond to this one. See, the way Microsoft works is that they release crap with drastic changes, knowing good and well it will shortly be replaced. When Apple released Snow Leopard, they touted it as "Leopard. improved". For Microsoft, we knew Windows 7 was, "Vista. Fixed."

So, I would prefer to fall into the former category of Apple, but Cakewalk can do what they choose I guess. The difference between Apple and Microsoft is that Apple releases smaller updates, and the End User feels that each update is either fixing something, or adding updated features. In the case of Microsoft, it's inferred that a Service Pack is nothing but a bunch of patches or fixes. They never give us the feeling we're getting updated features, or even new ones.

So, which impression would you rather have?

I agree it's long in the tooth for X2b, but I still stand by my last sentiment: Don't release X2b with new features, save a few Take Lanes issues, and don't release it without testing the living $#&! out of it. I sincerely hope this advice was taken. If so, I will wait patiently. I won't accept X3 as a solution, though. That's not a solution, that's avoiding the issues and giving us the finger.

I have to admit I'm a tad disappointed that Cakewalk has not issued an update since X2a. I've watched other DAW suppliers issue multiple updates (4) since their initial release. One of them has an active 'beta' available for their 5th update. I'm not expecting Cakewalk to provide details of what their strategic initiatives are but I would think that providing their customers with some, limited, information would just be good customer relations.

The recent poll(s) LOL, the webinar and the upgrade to the forum software were all positive signs but what is going on with their flagship product? Inquiring minds want to know! I am a mostly satisfied customer but ongoing threads of this type lead me to believe I am not alone scratching my head wondering what is going on with Cakewalk.

If it is true that 80% of a companies revenue comes from 20% of its customers and people on this forum represent that 20% then one would think that Cake would be sensitive to the feedback.  Also, customers only tend to complain or compliment when something extrardinary has happened during the course of either working with the company or using their product.  The only exception to all of these generalities is when something internal to the company is going on that prevents its ability to respond/reply to its consumers.  If I were a speculating sort of individual I would say that a lot...a whole lot has probably been going on at Cakewalk internally that we are simply not privy to.  Unfortunately I think patients is the order of the day and we just need to wait and see what Cake is up to.  I believe that if/when they have something exciting to say they will say it.  Companies are not shy and tend to accentuate their positives...me thinks its time to chill and have a beer...maybe later this afternoon...:)

ampfixerI worry too Keni. It's so hard to predict what's going on in Cake land. Was the new forum something to soothe the masses in lieu of an update? Who knows....

It backfired.

Think your joking with the multiple post?

Of course not.
The forum software is completely up the shoot.  Either I can't post at all (80% of the time) or my posts appear more than once.
Let's see what happens to this one.  if it's multiple - sorry, it's not my fault.

I think it's simple....they know it's time to shut-up and put up.
I think Roland has been in butt kickin' mode with the release of X and
know it's time to correct the wrongs.

I think when whatever is going to happen happens it's going to be good. Well....I'm
placing my last bet on it.

Hi Gang...

Lets face it... ALL the companies pull assorted shenanigans as well as try to guess what to focus on... Cakewalk is no different and for their' history, they have been better than the rest at staying in touch with their user base... Remember what it's like on a freeway when it's bumper to bumper...? If you change lanes thinking to move faster, you usually then watch all the cars in the lane you left move forward while you sit and wait some more... ;-) "Jumping ship" and going with a competitor will not usually be an advantage to us... Only to the new company you affiliate with as you deal with their' shortcomings after getting over enthusiasm with the things it has more together than where you came from! ;-)

But everything changes... and Cakewalk is for sure...

With the tone of the surveys and the lack of any statements I'm guessing there's gonna be yet another add-on for sale this year instead of a new release.... and maybe a free update at the same time... Another 2-year wait for a full upgrade... I shudder to think.......... Yesterday I did a mix session on some live tracks I did for a band's video a few weeks ago... Simple stuff... 3-piece rock band... But with all the lane/zoom issues it took forever fiddling with changing/adjusting zooms repeatedly... Yeah, I know... It's me and I haven't learned how the new software works yet.... Huh? I'm sure there are plenty of things I don't know, but with daily use of X since it's release I believe I'm more than reasonably familiar with it...

From the questions in the survey's it sounds as if they've been busy on another planet and are now wondering what to start working on now that they're back...

I sure hope I'm WAY off base! <sigh>...

Keni, lane size limitations aside, what zoom issues do you come across on a regular basis?   I know you've mentioned zoom adjustments before so I'm just curious.
