"
Did Microsoft make a blunder with Vista, then made us pay for Widows 7?"
I couldn't not respond to this one. See, the way Microsoft works is that they release crap with drastic changes, knowing good and well it will shortly be replaced. When Apple released Snow Leopard, they touted it as "Leopard. improved". For Microsoft, we knew Windows 7 was, "Vista. Fixed."
So, I would prefer to fall into the former category of Apple, but Cakewalk can do what they choose I guess. The difference between Apple and Microsoft is that Apple releases smaller updates, and the End User feels that each update is either fixing something, or adding updated features. In the case of Microsoft, it's inferred that a Service Pack is nothing but a bunch of patches or fixes. They never give us the feeling we're getting updated features, or even new ones.
So, which impression would you rather have?
I agree it's long in the tooth for X2b, but I still stand by my last sentiment: Don't release X2b with new features, save a few Take Lanes issues, and don't release it without testing the living $#&! out of it. I sincerely hope this advice was taken. If so, I will wait patiently. I won't accept X3 as a solution, though. That's not a solution, that's avoiding the issues and giving us the finger.
