stephen hawking says, "keep talking." i guess cw didn't hear, or was told, with fear of job loss from the mighty roland, to stfu...

pardon my french, but when someone asks me a question and i stand there mute, it is NOT a strategy for winning friends and influencing people. and IS a bad business move.

what do you think competitors would do if they knew cw was releasing a maintenance release after 10 months of silence? scurry to implement features to appear competitive as cw seems to do?

a championship hockey player, when asked which team he'd rather face in the finals, said, "doesn't matter who, or how they play. if we play our game, we'll win."

clean up your act, cw. your vow of silence doesn't change the fact that you've ignored your user community, those who buy your product, for almost a year. shameful... if you're trying to change that, have the courtesy to say something...

This is getting close to being locked, I'm afraid. CW has explained all this in other threads that needed to be locked, because there's just nothing else that can be said, unfortunately. I do agree that either an update or explanation after such a long time would have been nice. I do personally feel left out. I also agree that I don't want to buy X3 to fix X2 issues, unless CW can guarantee that X3 will be MUCH better tested. If there are bugs found in X3, I would sincerely hope CW will offer more patches/quickfixes more frequently vs. Service Packs like what Microsoft offers. These can all be rolled up into Service Packs, but the bottom line is this:

I want Sonar to be better tested and more reliable. I don't want more features at a cost to get that. I would prefer to pay $100 for X2b than even $20 for X3. You can see what's important to me vs. what may be important to Roland.

Anyone going to the Nashville NAMM show? Maybe CW will have something to say there.

I'm with you.  Right now what's most important to me are reliability and stability in the feature set already offered in X2.  Also, super tight interoperability with Mackie Control Protocol (MCP) control surfaces is very important to me.  Although I'm anxious to hear something from Cakewalk I've resolved that probably won't happen; I assume they're being tight-lipped about releases for probably very good marketing reasons (though that doesn't help our natural curiosity as users).  I am hoping that this time that has passed since the release of the X2a patch is being put to very good use bullet-proofing what I still feel is one of the most enlightened DAWs on the market.

Maybe Cakewalk is experiencing what the company I work for does almost every two years--reorganization. Usually, each reorg that happens causes chaos, inefficiencies and communication breakdowns. It takes us a couple of months to learn all the plans, know who's in charge of what department and understand and adhere to the "new business strategy."

Overall, I haven't been on this forum for very long so I honestly don't know, but does any official Cakewalk employee/spokesperson ever speak up in THESE threads (i.e. not just the announcements section)? If not, then maybe we're our own worst enemy talking amongst ourselves.

Granted, these forums are for users to help other users with problems, tips and tricks, offloading the burden from the company, but you'd think some PR folks would step in and hush the crowd every now and then right?  But of course we want the Cakewalk psychotherapists, not the Cakewalk riot police!

FWIW, this thread may help with CW's perspective at this time: http://forum.cakewalk.com/Very-Bad-Feeling-about-Cakewalk-m2852963-p2.aspx#

Thanks, stevec. I couldn't recall which one(s) had what needs to be seen.

Pay to have bugs fixed.  Of course we will.  $100 for a year's use of Sonar Professional is to be considered too much???????

Way silly.  I prolly used Sonar for about 10 hours a week average. About 500 hours per year. Equates to about 20 cents per hour to use Sonar, Dimension Pro, Rapture, Zeta2, Audio Snap, VVocal, Guitar rig, Perfect Space, Session Drummer,.... for a $99 yearly upgrade fee.

Just plain Stupid to argue for not paying to fix bugs.

Big mistake:  Cakewalk/Roland Managers deciding to charge $100 per upgrade for the X series instead of the historical $179.  And waiting nearly 2 years between X1 and X2.
They should have charged more. And updated more often to fix all the little bits, while adding features.

Continuing Major problems:
Focus on Xmas selling season.  Way last century.
Not selling yearly subscription/support services.  (A year's worth of updates, purchased whenever.)
Not providing a process for license transfer, including charging a fee ($25) to do so.
(Almost all the business logic code is already written. CW gets new customer/user. Secondary market increases the value of the software.....  No losers here.)
Not charging enough.
Not releasing fixes as soon as fixed.
Not enough 3rd party support: Reaper has grown way fast because 3rd parties can program (extensions, macros, interfaces)  and sell add-ons other than plugins. 3rd party support always increases a product's user base. And reduces promotion costs because the 3rd parties are sharing the activity.

Biggest stupidity: not recognizing the forums are the best source of ideas, feedback, and Company support. It is the least cost channel for customer issue resolution.

At least 2 full time, dedicated, persons should be assigned to the forums, and general communications.

Well, don't get me started.

This program was hand-coded in the Philippines,
woven on native looms, and compiled with authentic colors.
The slight variations and nail marks are visible because
this software was made from recycled code objects, and applets.
  Inherent in this technique
is the possibility of slight imperfections,
     which give this application
        its unique and desirable characteristics.

I have no problem with the yearly paid updates and I understand I'm paying for the continued progress of Sonar (both new features and fixes)...

That's fine with me... I do consider it very inexpensive for the fab tools I get!

...and I don't really car about free extras tho I appreciate them very much.

I also understand that many people are having joyous experiences with X2a...

I am merely put off by the fact that there are major bugs which I suffer with in everyday work and I remain hopefully anxious for fixes to relieve the stress.... Soon? <sigh>...

I am not in any way excusing the history of unfinished features, everlasting bugs, and unusable functions.

I do think lots of these problems are directly related to my previous comments: low upgrade pricing, uneven revenue stream because of focus on version releases.

I do not like the X series because of the stupidly wasted space, cluttered/menued interface, non-configurability.

I mostly use 8.5.3: more tracks on screen, layers, uncluttered BUTTON bars with useful 1-click access to what I use, right-click happiness,....

Would like to use the newer browser. But even that applet is not completely implemented.
