  • X2b or not to be... Yeah, another (p.8)

Keni, To your main point, I personally don't see a X2b coming. It's going to be X3 for the next installation would be my best guess.

I think take lanes are limited and unfinished. I try to use them for what I know they can do. I personally would like to be able to quick mix the volume of lanes within a track to get an idea to grow from when I'm soon writing and just want to keep the same setting and do a couple of different parts to the song.  I would like to be able to explode selected lanes into tracks. I also don't like that X2 doesn't always remember which state I left the track in sometimes (lanes on/off). I think - I know what you mean about the zooming problems - at least from my perspective of it being awkward/clumsy.

Ok, now I will certainly agree with a lot of what's been said, but I will agree with this the most: The forum is far easier on us (more incentive, anyway) to give feedback and suggestions here rather than through the Bug-Report or Feature-Request portals. Those offer no evidence that anyone even reads them, and they offer far less weight without others being able to chime in on great ideas or bugs. I know this from experience. My past company had similar channels. The forum gets the best input and highest visibility. The standard bug-report or feature-request portals are viewed only when the company decides to or has time to peruse them, AND if they decide some is too outlandish, they're simply just ignored.

In the case of Cakewalk, we get hardly any, if any feedback from submissions, there's literally, and I mean literally no incentive to even use those tools. For example, unless you can reliably recreate a bug every time with the steps you follow, what's the point? Here, at least it has a much higher chance of at least some chance of portal feedback from the admins, or others who might have input or suggestions. My perception, as contradictory as it may actually be, is that the forum is the best tool to use for feedback. I'm truly sorry to say that, but it's simply the truth as I see it.

I do not like the X series because of the stupidly wasted space, cluttered/menued interface, non-configurability.

I mostly use 8.5.3: more tracks on screen, layers, uncluttered BUTTON bars with useful 1-click access to what I use, right-click happiness,....

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ this

Though sadly, I doubt we'll ever see the button bars back. I once suggested a customisable Button Module for the Control bar, but that obviously fell on deaf ears.

The extra clicks thing, and the 'hidden'/illogical menus still drive me mad with frustration even after all this time. To this day, when I want to insert extra measures, I still automatically hit Insert on the menu bar instead of Project to access the dialogue.

Here's a question for those of you hovering between jumping ship or sticking with Cakewalk.

If all your Pro-Channel modules had also been made available as standard VST plug-ins (like the CA-2A now is) so you could use them in any host program, would that make your decision to defect easier?

Some might suggest that making them proprietary and only able to work inside the Pro-Channel was a shrewd bit of business.

I imagine I'd simply go back to Sonar 8.5.3 as I know of nothing better... The PC Modules are very good and I've grown to depend on them...

There are a few new commands that are cool (X2), but not enuf to make up for all the issues I have with it...

Even the Microsoft managers understood/understand the need for a user defined button bar, given the stupidity of the ribbon/command bar.  The buttons I PUT ON THE  1-click button bar are my most used bits of office 07, 10, 13. What I need where I want it.  The command ribbon is nearly always hidden.

But the w8 windows explorer, folder manager, is way stupid compared to the w7 explorer. Extra clicks for what are the most used functions, i.e., quick display of images and file contents. Another example of idjits designing an application they do not use. (XL is another)

Sonar WAS known for its configurability. It WAS a MAJOR feature and selling point.

Who were the sick bastards that decided to get rid of colors, user menus and 1-click button bars??????????????

And who were the way dumb sycophants that allowed them to do so?????

Off with their heads!!!!

The second statement clarifies the first.

I'd upgrade to Producer without hesitation. :)

+1 I'm with you all the way here.

But be careful JM, you're in imminent danger of bringing some much needed common sense to the discussion

What you describe here is exactly what happens to a program when its creators listen to the fanboys, and not the people who should really matter - the critics. I've said it countless times and I'll say it again - a company moves forward, not by basking in the adulation of its adherents, but by listening to those who are not completely happy with their product. And long term, everybody wins.

I was just reading another thread where the OP was asking if a feature he liked in 8.5 was available in X2. Instead of simply saying "No", the sycophants, who couldn't bring themselves to admit in public the failing in the newer version, simply skate around the issue and offer workarounds.

Sadly, we get what we deserve.
