That's a nicely written song, and the slightly off-hand, laid-back vocal delivery works well. I think people are missing a bass because there are drums - the ear needs to complete the rhythm section. I think it would work just as well without drums, or maybe just light percussion instead of the kit.

Someone mentioned mastering with Ozone. I think that would add to a great tune. Also a little bass. Very good as is, though. Enjoyed the listen.

Ok. I made some changes here:
I added a bass.
I cloned the guitar. Panned one hard left, put some delay on the other and panned it hard right. Thought that might be a simple way to add more width to the stereo field.
Changed the drum kit.
Panned the flute a little more off center.
Took a little high end off of the lead voc. Added a couple of harmony vox on the last chorus.

Please let me know what you think- what works, what doesn't.

This mix was done in headphones. I found out while adding the bass that my monitors' foam surrounds are deteriorating and were buzzing. So I'm going to try to replace them.

Thanks.
Doug

Really nice song, Doug, and very well done.  The bass made a dramatic difference... really moves it along.  I enjoyed it.

Very nice improvement.  Got yer groove goin'!  Maybe pull that left guitar in (to the right) just a hair??

Yes definite improvement overall, it was nice before but you have just added some icing on it.

I like the direction the new mix is taking, Doug. Here's what I'd do next if it was my song...the mix is unbalanced by the acoustic guitar on the left, which needs something in the right channel to balance it out. Maybe another acoustic guitar track duplicating the first, perhaps with a 12-string. But that's just one possibility. Sometimes a percussion instrument can serve that purpose, such as a shaker (the song might benefit from some subtle pushed-to-the-back percussion, e.g. congas/bongos). Being a keyboard player, I usually end up using piano or organ to balance a hard-panned acoustic guitar.

But whatever you do, keep that great clean vocal right up front and personal like it is. It's the best thing the song's got going for it.
