I haven't seen anyone, cept me I know of, still playing the boom chic style on guitar. I just don't hear it anymore. None of the guitar players around here do it. Someone tell me it's not dead!

Guitar education has gotten so good that most pro guitarists can play every style these days, no?

None I've met here do. I haven't seen anyone playing it even the pros. It's not popular here and it's been described to me as old timey stuff.  I think one problem is the shortage of popular tunes that someone could draw a melody off of. When I play a boom chik song they ask what the name of the song is. I don't get that response when I play it for anyone over 50

Well, I didn't mean to imply that any pro can play as WELL as chet or roy clark or...the greats, but if one majors in music and studies guitar to death, and there's a gazillion of us who have, it's usually in the quiver.  I started lessons when I was 6 and my teacher started me on boom chic with peter paul and mary songs.  Most of us can do it pretty easily given the dots.

I just wish the younger players were doing it. If nothing else to kick off a tune. I don't see that. I know some guys in Baton Rouge that can but they are my age and like me retired from playing

I've done that too dog. I mention his name and they say "who?" Plenty of guys playing Steve Vai or any of the shredders.

Well, I've lived in MA, NY, FL and OR.  Everywhere has been awash with great guitar players.  Of course I've been playing the damn thing for 40 years so it's not  mysterious to me.  If you have the dots...most pros should be able to play it...in Nashville they have a short hand system that maybe fewer know, but still...Tallahassee (FSU) has probably the best classical guitar program in the country.  That's not too far away is it?!  (oops, controversy) :D:D
