  • [Solved]multiple outputs in battery 3 causes latency, dropouts and glitches

Well, I'm stumbling upon another issue on X2a. Even after deleting, re-installing and updating battery 3, this weird issue persists, where as soon as I have more than one output routed to an audio track, all midi activity is slowed down throughout the project, and glitches, clicks and pops happen every which way. It has nothing to do with system performance, as this happens even with only a single battery instance in the project, and I have a very fast pc with a focusrite pro24. Any clues as to what could possibly cause this? It used to be fine before, this kind of happened out of nowhere and won't get fixed.

I have Battery 3 and have never had such a problem. Nor can I think what would cause it.

Me either, and I am a long-time user of Battery 3.

By default, all outputs for a loaded kit will go to the single Master pair of outputs, so I am a bit confused.

I always use custom kits, where each loaded cell is assigned its own set of outputs, which I then assign individual audio tracks for, giving me total control over each kit piece.

Sorry I don't have your issue, and like John, have no idea why that would be happening to you.

I would like to help, can you please detail your cell output routing values, and the corresponding track assignments?  Perhaps with more detail, we can get something figured out for you.

I'm on Battery 4 and not having any latency issues such as you are describing...I'm assuming your comment about MIDI latency is just a typo. I don't think I've heard of MIDI latency, sample rendering latency yes. Don't recall having issues with Battery 3. I typically run 8 outs though admittedly I typically use a smaller grid than the max (4 x 16?).

As robert mentions if you providing some additional details it might be helpful to assisting you.

I see your machine is presumably quite speedy, and the interface is a good one.

Can you please also list the Sample Rate and ASIO Buffer Size (or number of samples if they went that route), for the interface, as well as the Sample Rate and record bit-depth that is set in Sonar, and lastly the various latency values you see in Sonar - including Total Round Trip Latency?

I am assuming also that you have a Driver Mode in Sonar of ASIO?

(and don't forget to explain the issue in more detail, from my earlier request for info)

And, if running in Windows 7, please download and run DPC Latency Check, and post back its values after letting it run a few minutes without Sonar up and going.

If on Windows 8, download and run LatencyMon and post any problematic results from that.

Another long-time battery 3 user, I've never experienced these problems either and I usually use 6-8 stereo outs routed to different audio tracks.

The only thing I can think of suggesting (other than following Robert's advice) would be to check the NI forums.

Long time Battery 1, 2 and 3 user here, using multiple outs with no issues.

I know that doesn't help you but wanted to support the fact that it is more than likely something to do with your individual set-up.

Mike how do you like Battery 4? I'm interested.

Mike how do you like Battery 4? I'm interested.

John, I'm not a power user so take my comments with a grain of salt, but I think the interface is much improved. I'm still in the process of learning some of the new capabilities but it seems that there is much more control of effects on individual cells. Routing may be slightly improved - I wasn't particularly knowledgable overall when I first got Battery 3 (as part of Komplete).

I did the full upgrade to Komplete 9 and I did so not because of Battery but some of the other plugs (in particular the RC24 and 48 reverbs, Studio Drummer and some basic plugs) though Battery seemed like a very good side benefit. That said having used it a bit it seems a lot more functional to me but this may be the result of my overall growth over the past few years.
If you are happy with Battery 3 I'm not sure it would be a great upgrade for you in and of itself but if you had the cash and were thinking about doing I wouldn't hesitate either.

HTH
