After some SERIOUS frustration....The "H" key opens this up......
 
god damn it. what a horrible little shortcut to default hide tracks.

Thanks to Chregg who kinda got me on to the right frame of mind coupled with the power of google.
 
Now to edit, export and deliver to client albeit behind schedule.

For future reference - shift + H displays all tracks, hidden, archived or not.
