  • Losing EQ Settings is frustrating

I'm chugging through a recording from Friday night. I encountered some crashes due to not having focus on Sonar as the Window in Focus at the beginning or end of bounce-to-tracks using external inserts.

I looked up 1/2 hour ago and all my EQs had been flattened. Man.. bummer. I had been leaving my second monitor off just to be power conscious, but then failed to notice all the EQs go flat (I'm guessing after a crash?). They were still enabled. All the compressors and CEs were in place and set as I had set them. But every EQ had been reset to flat. Interestingly, the EQ Types were still representative of what I'd set.

I had exported the PC settings so it's totally recoverable, but what a pain!! Lots of re-work now.

I've been having a similar problem with Waves EQ's and it got so bad that I've reverted to using the ProChannel EQ for everything (which isn't necessarily a bad thing because it's a great EQ)....however, the same damn thing is happening with that one now. Open projects, some of the EQ's are completely reset. It's reached the point where I dread opening a project now.

In my case, it was PC EQ.

Sharke, do you crash a lot? or never?

In my case also - perhaps I wasn't clear, I started using the ProChannel EQ because of the Waves problem, but now the same thing is happening to the ProChannel EQ as well.

I don't crash a lot, but over the last 24 hours I've started seeing a problem whereby Sonar is not remembering the last project I had open in the "recent projects" list in the Quick Start dialog. And it's also not shutting down properly when I close it - I have to go into the task manager and kill both the Sonar and BitBridge processes. So, I've just uninstalled X2 and am installing it again....

Sharke, I've followed all your blues. It kinda scares me that it could be me next.

I haven't had nearly the trouble. In my case, if I'm careful, everything works. I know I can cause crashes doing a few things (that I sometimes am prone to do) but in general Sonar is stable for me.

I have never re-installed it. I am eager for the next edition > paid or unpaid > I really just want a better Sonar.

Don't we all! I've heard all the arguments about the grass not being greener with other DAW's and that they all have their fair share of problems, but I'm at the point now where I'm seriously considering alternative software. It comes to something when you settle down in the evening for the only 3 or 4 hours of the day you have free for making music, and you spend over half of that either researching problems or redoing mix settings that Sonar has lost or generally tearing your hair out. This is why I'm so annoyed at Cake's refusal to release any upgrade information - having even just a clue about what's in the pipeline (Fixes? New version?) would clear the fog and allow me to take stock and plan ahead.

Anyway, we will see what this new install will do for me. I'm on the second attempt because the first time it said some files were corrupt (sigh....)

Did you delete the necessary registry keys before re-installing?

Yep I followed the step by step instructions Cake gave me last time they advised me to uninstall.

Good man.

This catches out a lot of people, who end up saying "I've still got my original problem"

It would be nice if they provided a complete uninstaller to handle all of that stuff though.
