Hello Everyone,

A few years ago I was putting together some songs that were never used, this was before the Sonar X series, so I was in Sonar 8 (I believe that was the last version before X).  Anyway, now some of the synths won't load (Rapture, Dimension, and some Native Instruments).  I think this is because I now have installed newer versions of these softsynths and they aren't registered the same.  Am i out of luck here?  I really want the same sounds I had originally.

Thank you in advance,
Adam

They could be DXi instead of VSTi. The only way to open projects with the older DXi synths intact is to install the old versions.

For me, this problem disappeared with Rapture after I re-installed it and selected the 32-bit option instead of 64. Now it seems to load Rapture VSTi ok for every project, even ones that originally used the DXi version.

No solution for Dimension Pro though.

Maybe you never used the DXi version of Rapture. IIRC all the versions prior to Rapture v1.2.2 shipped DX and VST format.

I had this issue with RealGuitar DXi tracks in older Sonar versions; in my case, I fixed it just by copying and pasting the MIDI from old track to the new; but if you have specific synth sounds set up, that will be painful.  I guess you could open the old version and bounce to audio, but then your editing options would be limited.

Maybe you never used the DXi version of Rapture.

I've just checked this. I booted up in XP, launched Sonar 7 and opened a few projects and eventually found one that includes 2 instances of Rapture DXi. Rebooted in W7-64, launched Sonar X2 and opened the same project. The synth rack shows "Rapture 1" and "Rapture 2", each with the correct programs/elements/samples loaded. Since the DXi version is not installed (it's not listed in the browser or Plugin Manager), then these must be VSTi.

But wait! Next I tried adding a third instance of Rapture and was surprised to see it displayed as another "Rapture 1" rather than "Rapture 3". This seems to imply that the first 2 instances are not VSTi after all. Now I'm confused.

By the way, I was wrong when I said earlier that there was no solution for Dim Pro.  Reverting back to v1.2 will solve the problem, as it includes the DXi.
