I am trying to use the metronome to count in a certain number of measures at the beginning of a track and then stop. Is there a way to do that or can you only set it by record or playback for the full length of the track? Any other ideas to accomplish this? I have Sonar 8 Producer 8.3 and am using the audio metronome. Thank you.

easy, open metronome options and set your count in and shut off metronome during playback and record.

If you want it to keep runinng several measures into the piece and then stop, you can route the output to a bus , and put a volume envelope on the bus with a jump to -INF after the last click you want to hear. A Metronome bus is a good idea anyway, because it gives you immediate acces to change the volume of the metronome or mute it on the fly during recording or playback.

That's brilliant!. I always hear this dam metronome way to loud, and do like Homer and say" ah-well".

This is why in the default templates we now route the metronome to it's own bus. This allows you to easily mute automate the volume for full flexibility.

BTW: This Metronome bus is also good for previewing the Media Browser. Just route the Media Browser to the existing Metronome bus. Then you have a nice volume control for the Media Browser as well.

Unless you want to route it to a hardware/external synth, in which case you're out of luck.

I am bringing this one out from the shadows to ask what may be a stupid question: if in a project the metronome bus is deleted, then how do I recreate the metronome bus again? Where is the actual metronome audio source to route to said bus?

And how the heck can the media browser's output be routed to a bus?!? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) ?

EDIT: Nevermind, I figured out the metronome output to the bus thing...PREFERENCES>Choose the output of the metronome to a bus in the drop-down menu.

EDIT: Nevermind again, I figured out browser audio previous thing...click on the little down arrow on top of the browser, next to "media" and select the bus of choice. A little hidden, but easy!

Create the bus again. Then set the metronome output in the Metronome Preferences dialog output dropdown. You can get to the metronome preferences by clicking on the metronome in the transport module, Edit > Preferences > Project > Metronome or enter P to bring up the Preferences dialog.

Thanks for the prompt response. I figured it out. The metronome is back in charge, but now quieter than ever!
