Hi all

I'm new on Cakewalk Sonar X2 Studio

I began to record some audio tracks.
After edit a midi file, i recorded the sounds from my Tyros 4 (Audio Stereo) on Track One.
I can read it, no problem.

Next i tried to record a second track (Audio Mono) , for adding my accordion from microphone capture.
The recording is right.

But when i read all tracks (Tyros and accordion), the accordion is late compared to Tyros. I must to delete some 'ms' on start on the accordion to be sync.
About the audio quality, good sound. no problem.

I've some doubt about the latency or something like that.

I use an Alesys Multimix 16 USB2

Could you help me please.

Are you using any plugins/VST's in the project?  Also, are you saying that when PLAYING recorded audio in conjunction to PLAYING MIDI notes, the audio input from the hardware instrument/synth is delayed when compared to the audio tracks?
 
If so, then this is one of my biggest problems exactly, and I hope to clear it up with a new PCI firewire card, as I think undue latencies are occuring with my audio interface.
 
Can you also describe your audio interface, driver settings (ASIO, etc.) and buffer/latency settings thus far? What is your reported round-trip latency (displayed in the audio section of Sonar's preferences)? Thanks!

It could be that Sonar's automatic correction for the delay between the MIDI being sent to the synth and the resulting sound reaching Sonar isn't quite correct. All hardware synths take time to respond to MIDI, the amount varies depending on the synth. This usually shows up as the synth audio being a little bit later than the MIDI though it can also end up slightly ahead.
 
It's normal to have to shift recorded hardware synth audio a little becasue of this. If you only have he one synth then there's a setting in preferences you can adjust to compensate, but if like many of us you have several synths then they will each lag a different amount so there's no "one size fits all" adjustment.
 
If you record a percussive synth sound does the recorded sound start at exactly the same point as the MIDI note in Sonar when you look at the track pictures?
 
If the problem is that the MIDI and synth line up but the accordion is late, how many milliseconds out is it? Is it always the same? Bear in mind that unless it's a MIDI equipped accordion then humans aren't accurate to the millisecond and it might just be the musician that's late, not Sonar (happens to me all the time) :-).

Yes, i used a midi file recorded from Tyros4 and saved on an USB key. I played the midi file and in same time, i recorded the Tyros4 in audio track.

I may say that i didn't used the ASIO, but the default driver. (Sorry, i'm not in front of Sonar X2 right now, so, i can't say more about these values). I'll let you know later.

I forgot how many ms, but i think perhaps about 100 ms
However, i'll try with ASIO driver.
I remember that i did have any problem with Cubase Lite.
My project has been saved step by step, with a different file name. I could make some test easily.
I'll let you know.

So you're mixing midi and audio and you have sync issues.
 
What sound card are you using? And for that sound card, what is the driver you use?
 
Normally this is a problem when using a factory card and MME as the driver. Most factory cards don't work well with ASIO.
 
Most folks who get into this home recording thing eventually purchase a third party USB based musical interface which is capable of running native ASIO drivers, and the problems ( more than one) associated with the factory cards goes away.

Like i said, i use a Mixer Alesis Multimix 16 usb 2. No sound card, because the Alesis Mixer is like a sound card, and be able to record 16 tracks in same time (On the paper of course!  )
 
 

This is due to your sound card settings in Sonar's Preference Menu.  Just because it works in cubase doesn't mean anything as Sonar is a different program and your sound card may need to be set up properly in Sonar. 
 
It can be as easy as changing your driver mode to ASIO or WDM or making sure you have the latency offset set up correctly.

I made some test this morning.

The best for me is, to use the ASIO driver.
It seems better. No driver error, no latency....etc ....Good.

However, i haven't all tracks. Just the tracks 1(L, R, Stereo), 3.....13, 15(L, R, Stereo).
So... quetion:

• Why i cannot have all tracks, really like this : mono tracks  (1, 2, 3, up to 8), and all stereo tracks (9/10, 11/12, 13/14, and 15/16)?

I already use my mixer Alesis Multimix 16 Usb2 under Cubase Lite, Soudforge and ACID, i can see every tracks available on this mixer.

It's a Sonar bug, a Sonar limit, or a bad setting?

Welcome to Sonar post Sonar 4( meaning making sense). It's Sonars way. We asked for more friendly names, and even though you can name your audio I/o, it gets organized this way anyway. Guess cake didn't get the memo on what friendly names actually are. My dog is named Fido Left 1&2. He gets confused also. :)

Oh yeah, forgot mention. They are probably there. It's 1&2 left, 1&2 right, 3&4 left, 3&4 right. Etc. See friendly. Don't you get it. :p
