I have NEVER seen this before anywhere but I just booted up my DAW and after logging on to Windows this box appears in the upper left corner of the screen. Its background is X2 black/grey (I mean like the background color of say the Track Pane in Sonar) and the text is Red. It simply says "Warning!", has an exclamation point in one of those rounded triangles (also red) and aside from that a little close button at the top left corner (the X and outline of the box surrounding it is white and the background matches the rest of the window). If I hover over it nothing appears indicating what it is. If I left or right click it it just disappears and nothing happens. The window does not show up as an icon in the taskbar like other windows or programs do. If I click the hidden icons thingy on the taskbar nothing is there either. I have rebooted multiple times and it appears every time. I did a quick scan with Microsoft Security Essentials and it found nothing. I rebooted and it wasn't there but I decided to reboot again just to see if it would come back and it did.

What in the heck is this thing? It is seriously bizarre and it's freaking me out. Cheers.

It could be a virus Beep. If it has no instruction or other indication of what it is warning about I would try to seek out what it is. Do a search for it. I hope I am wrong.

Hi, John. There really isn't much for me to search on though especially since Google has become next to useless as far as searches. I don't really see how I could have gotten a virus because last thing I did with it was on an ULTRA secure site. Maybe it is but MSE didn't see anything and it is up to date. The color scheme is weird though. Very Sonar X series like. I also worried maybe it's my MOBO trying to tell me something but damn... I'm just not getting any info from this thing. I'm not hooked up to the net at the moment and when I clicked it it just disappear instantly (usually you'd expect a lag of some kind if it was launching something). IDK... I was just hoping maybe someone recognized this thing before I do a system restore (fortunately I made one a few weeks ago and haven't done much with the system since).

Ugh... bad timing. Cheers.

WTH? Now after doing a full shutdown and reboot it's gone. I was going to see if I could find it in the task manager. Dammit.

You could look in the Windows Event logs for a clue.

I was just poking around in there but I can't decipher any of that stuff. I'm running a full scan now to see if MSE finds something. If not I'll probably do a restore tomorrow. P*ss me off. I have no idea whether this is being throw up by a program, by my MOBO or if it's a virus. Totally weird.

I see nothing about it doing a search.  It could simply be a program acting oddly. I would check your task manager, see whats running. I tried Google, Bing and Yahoo.  I found nothing.

Damn. I have no idea how I could have gotten something like that. I swear I hardly do ANYTHING online with this system and I have it locked right down. I'm starting to rethink this MSE thing. If it let something through despite all my precautions... well that's just crap.

It's gone now but now I'm paranoid. Tomorrow I will restore and possibly remove MSE and install Avast.
