  • Project folder not showing up in X2 browser....

I just finished up a 12 song project, each song in it's own sub-directory under the main project directory on the HD.
Now for some odd reason...my whole project directory is not visible when I go to try to open one of the songs.  The folders are there...fully visible in Windows Explorer....but not X2.

The only way I can open any of the song projects is to double click the cwp file in Windows Explorer.

This happens when I try to open a project song....or even if I try to export a mix...my main project folder is not visible.  I was about to panic until I thought to open them through Win Explorer.

Any ideas?

I did not know that the media browser could open projects. I always use File > Open or Ctrl-O to open the File Open dialog. Turns out I can open projects with the browser but never tried it before this post. Why the cwp files are not visible in the browser might be due to the view setting in the media tab.

All other projects open using the X2 browser, X2 sees all my other folders.  And I've never had a problem exporting mixes either....except this project....which the main project folder (and all sub-folders) are not visible.

BTY...you can open just about any program file within Windows Explorer...as long as it is "associated" with a particular program.  Such as... cwp automatically opens with X2 if you double click on a cwp file....a veg file will open up with Sony Vegas, etc.

Oh I am very familiar with Windows file associations, never use them to open SONAR files either. I always use the SONAR Open dialog. The only thing I could think of is a strange character in the directory name or permissions problem.

Just an update on this experience.

This must have been just some kind of weird bug that happened.  I ended up going into Windows Explorer and re-naming my folder.  All I did was add an underline symbol to the end of the folder name.

Now....the folder and all subfolders show up in X2 Open dialog box.

I think this bug happened when I created the folder from the x2 "Save as" dialog box.  Normally, I always had created my folders in Win Explorer before saving from X2.

This same thing happened with another project I just started.  I saved the song to it's own folder beneath the main project folder.  I went to open a song back up and.....the folder was not visable.

Update since I started writing this....

I just renamed this new project's main folder and it starts showing up in X2 Open dialog box.
I rename it again....back to the original name....and it's now still visible.  Interesting for sure...!

Hi Ted, this is certainly strange behavior, but I would check to see if these folders were set to hidden in the preferences menu.  Just a shot but is sounds more like a Windows thing than a SONAR thing.

Kind regards,

Or perhaps the folder name includes a reserved word.

I don't think it could be that the folders were hidden.  They showed up just fine in Windows Explorer.  It was only in the X2 Open or Save As dialog boxes that it was not visible.

I too think it may be a windows thing....other than the fact that it only did this strange behavior in X2 and not any other programs.

Interesting for sure...especially since they started showing up after I renamed the main folder in Win Explorer.
