I sent a message to Camel last night. here is the response.

>I find no info about how to audition a sample.

For instructions (text) on importing a sample, please see the following page of the manual.

Samples will automatically play when selected, allowing you to audition them before importing them into Alchemy.

Thanks guys.

Can you confirm that any of these programs will allow auditioning of samples on midi keyboard BEFORE the import process.  Everything thus far must import the sample before it will playback on keys.

Auto preview does not interest me as I need to pitch up/down or audition samples poly phonically.

@Guitar Dude:  Can you "1 click" a file and play it on keys before importing it for editing?

Yes!,you can do something pretty similar and easy in Kontakt, just one click!:drag and drop the sample to the rack, play your keyboard!!!..drag and drop another sample on to that(replace)..play you keyboard again...I call it ¨importing for polyphonic audition¨,once you're satisfied with the sample add more (for multi-sampling)and do your editing.

But of course, I don't use that method(like most people), because I'm looking for a bunch of multi-samples that works well together, in their own small range(not a few octaves or the complete keyboard!),and for that matter a simple auditioning of the original sample pitch and sound is enough...

@Guitar Dude:  Can you "1 click" a file and play it on keys before importing it for editing?

@Kine:  Yes mate.  I saw that.  Useful no doubt but still not quite what I'm after.  Vsampler would display 1000's of samples in its Maximized interface (including sub directories) and I could navigate so easily and simply click once on a file and play on keys.

Its just how I work.  Searching for sounds takes a large amount of my time and so anything less will have a major impact.  ;<

It's pretty much like I said above.  Pull up library, double-click on a sound, play on your midi-synth, double-click next patch, play on your synth.  Once you've got what you're looking for, click okay and either edit away or record/playback midi with that sound.  Pretty straight forward  and simple.  I think VSampler may qualify for a competitive upgrade pricing.

Best,

ok thanks guys.  Not gona work for me.  1000's to go through so anything more then 1 click is a killer.

Search continues...

You have described the need for two functions:
  easy auditioning
   playing samples

VSampler provides both of these functions.

But most other programs do not.  It prolly will be you will need to use two programs.

Does the browser of the standalone version of VSampler work without crashes?

For their search and audition functions:
Sample lord is worth playing with the demo.
As is Alchemy.

And IFoundASound also may work for searching:

You know what... i never thought of that.

Will try VSampler stand alone.  Good thinking JS!.  Yes external will do me as I'm even looking into audio browser programs.  Though none have pitch playback so far...

Thanks mate.  Hope it works.
