Hi all, many thanks for the comments and advice!
Well, I am a keyboard player so the guitars, generally, sound like they are being played by a keyboard player :) as the guitarists around here will surely notice. My bass is a Musicman Bongo, it's got two humbuckers, each with a 9v preamp active, plus I swapped the strings out for Bella tape wounds. So I can get sick low end for days, as the kids would say, and for the bass I EQ everything off above 500-600 hz, totally low-passed.

.....if anything at all, the bass seemed a liitle too hot (dB wise) on my H-phones,
and yes, the bass volume is definitely at its upper limit. I always spend the most time on the bass, I don't know about your experiences, but I think it's the toughest nut to crack.
tbosco
However, in these speakers it sounds like every main instrument is dead center. I hear cymbals and reverb outside the field, but to my picky ears some of the instruments could be panned a little more (or make use of a stereo effect?) so they're not on top of each other.
Yes, good call, tbosco, I don't have anything really panned more than 40%, and I might go back and have a look at that.
gusrogers
. . . for me the drums feel a little small and flat, the snare needs a little more bite.
Yes, I get that one, too. I'm using AD 1 with the Spike Stent Indie 3 kit, and the snare is more dry/crisp than meaty/solid. I have all kinds of eq and compression on that snare. I have AD2 and I might try some other kit to see if it's a little more happening.
Overall, thanks again, I know I've gotten to hear a lot of your songs and thanks for helping to make this forum vibrant.
cheers,
-Tom
