Hello All

I purchased an East West product earlier this year and have been using the ilok license manager on computer to activate the license. Unfortunately I first had to upgrade my PC, and then replace it, and this is where the problems have come in.

Not realising I had to deactivate the license before either upgrading or replacing my PC I quickly realised that the license now sat in an offline location and couldn't be activated. I contacted EW who provided a new license on both occasions which was great.

However, after I got my new PC last week I installed the EW product again and have been having issues with it in Sonar. When I load my sonar project I get a message saying I don't have a valid activation. I was advised do de-activate and then re-activate the license and in doing so I've met a big problem. As soon as I de-activated the license it 'bounced' into one of my now two offline (dead) locations...and of course couldn't be re-activated again. EW have since place another license in my ilok account but before I activate it and meet more problems I just wanted to ask here;

Is it possible to delete / remove the offline / dead locations in ilok license manager? I have written to but support at ilok but I don't know how long they are going to take.

No, you can't delete the offline locations...

There are only two ways...have both iLoks PC's available
to move between them, or do a "transfer".  These
are the only ways to "move" licenses that I'm aware of...
Otherwise they stay in your account perpetually...

Why didn't iLok just "move" your license back to your
active iLok PC rather then "issue a new one"...

Also, ZDT (Zero Down Time) can help prevent these problems
a bit more easily...

Sorry to hear of your troubles....

Only sign of hope was having a similar situation with Steinberg's software licensor.
Fortunatley there was a way to deactivate the 'dead computer accounts' and get my licenses back!

Will have a look around for help for you.

Amazon uk are selling iloks for £23 quid - if its an option.

I haven't dealt with Ilok when this has gone wrong, I just contacted east west who supplied a new license.

What is ZDT?

Thank you Effin. If I buy an Ilok from Amazon how easy is the process of transferring the license to the physical Ilok? It sounds like a really good way of avoiding this issue in the future.

Ok.... hdd failure is a major issue. - so I'll avoid licensing on computer..

similar problem:
https://www.kvraudio.com/...&start=30#p6181161

on a physical ilok - simple drag and drop..

I now have three and can drag licenses from 1 ilok to another.

When you say simply drag and drop...drag and drop what? If I buy an ilok dongle am I allowed to transfer my soft license to this dongle?

Yes, you can drag and drop from one iLok location to another...i.e.

From Computer to iLok
From iLok to iLok (if you have more then one)

This is always worth a repost when it comes to iLok

The closest thing to that is iLok. But the problem with a system like that is that it gives the most important control of your product to another company...and you have to go along with their way of doing things, even if that's NOT the way you want to do business. Not only that, but if something happens to that company or that system, then it affects everybody...hundreds of products and hundreds of thousands of users! The concept of paying for a system like that, when we can do a better job of it in-house is extremely distasteful to me.

It's weird....we lose some sales to Pro Tools users because we don't use iLok and they prefer to have a dongle. But if we did, there are many thousands more of our users that would hate going to a dongle system. (and offering both dongle and dongless methods just complicates things, providing less reliability, more tech support and less security as well).

I just would never trust another company (especially PACE) with such a valuable and key part of my business and how I interact with my customers.

Perhaps you might preface such a quote with the words "a wise man once wrote..."- any business that sees things from the customer's viewpoint is a business worthy of it's customers
