If I recall I had the same problem with installing X1 the first time. Now X2 install during the Microsoft Redistributable Package. I'm the administrator and the install is ran as the administrator. Any suggestions? an error occurred while trying to replace this existing file delete file failed; code 5 access is denied

Did you try running the installer as admin?  Not just your Windows login, but the SONAR installer as well.

Also... you don't have UAC enabled, correct?

Yes, and yes. I have the msvcr71.dll.... it just wont replace it, " access is denied" I'm not sure if Cakewalk adds anything to the file. I clicked ignore and it continued to install. X2 loads up with an old project fine. But I'm paranoid because it didn't take long to get my first crash. Anyone know if anything is added to the msvcr71.dll??

X2 uses the same Microsoft runtime redistributables that X1 did. If you are getting that error it means that something is blocking updating that file. Either its in use by something else or you have antivirus software preventing it. Make sure you boot clean and ensure you don't have any other programs or antivirus software running when you install.
If you already have the X1 redist installed however you likely already have the latest runtimes.

"access is denied" is a Windows permission issue of some kind.  But if you're the admin, have UAC off, and have run the SONAR exe as admin, I'm not sure what's left!    Are you installing to the default location?

Got the same problem.
When the alert appear, I have check at the path specify in the message and didn't find the file at all ? So it's a good reason why it cannot be deleted.

What this file for ?
