I'm having an issue with my audio that's driving me insane. I can record a track and the audio will line up on the beat as it's recorded. However, once X2 renders the track everything goes slightly before the beat. For example, I can record a bass part that is straight quarter notes at a reasonably brisk pace (128 bpm, for example) and the track will show each quarter note right on the beat as it is recording. As soon as the recording is finished, Sonar does its thing and renders the track but the quarter notes that were previously right on the beat are now slightly ahead of the beat. I've confirmed the issue both with my eyes and my ears. Any ideas on why this is happening?

Has this just started happening? or has it always been this way? are you using asio drivers? If so then are you letting them use the reported latency? I believe that you can also use the manual offset to change it if you think you can line it up more accurately.
This is just a guess and at very worst... a bump.

I'm sure the guys on here will definitely help troubleshoot and solve the prob.

Just to check I'm getting this right: You record some audio and it seems ok, you play it back and its lagging behind?

If so, it could be your CPU is stressed with a lot of FX plugs and so forth. A good trick for recording is to disable FX using the global disable FX button just while you are recording, then re-enable it after you've finished recording.

As the wizard said its all in your "sync" settings.

In general let Sonar "use reported ASIO latency".
If you are not using the ASIO drivers, you have to use the Manual Offset.

FWIW, even if you use reported ASIO latency there is a good chance that a small manual offset might be necessary. Here is how to find out.

Yes, this is the first time this has happened. A little background. I recently made two upgrades to my recording setup. The first was replacing my old Lexicon Lambda interface with a Focusrite Scarlett 18i6. Then I upgraded Sonar from X1 Studio to X2 Producer. Typically, I don't change more than one thing in my setup until I have a handle on the first piece of new equipment but a really great deal on the Focusrite and Cakewalk offering to upgrade me to X2 for $99 bucks hit about the same time. I couldn't afford to pass up either since I knew I wanted to upgrade to X2 Producer anyway. Loving the Pro Channel!

Thanks to the screen shot Tom posted, I figured it out. I was using the ASIO drivers and had the "Use ASIO Reported Latency" checked. However, the wrong device was selected in the drop down box. I was using a Line 6 plugin and had my old GX interface plugged in as well. The Latency Adjustment was set to it, not the Focusrite. I changed it to the Focusrite and did a test pass and it lined up on the beat.

I appreciate everyone chiming in to help. I may not have metronome-like perfect timing, but I knew I wasn't as off as the waveform showed, especially since it showed me right on while laying down the track! And scook, I read through the link you posted and will take a look at that as well. That info should be included as part of the standard setup instructions when installing Sonar.

If you just upgraded your sound card, I would make sure the card is set up properly in sonar.
Do not use the default settings!

Make sure you try ASIO and WDM driver modes at various latency settings and decide what works best for you. There are no best setting as its on a case by case basis.

Also, make sure your audio drivers are up todate and current with your Windows Architecture.

If you're still having problems, try updating the your i8i6 driver.
