This started slowly, but now has grown to the point that SONAR crashes almost every time I create a V-Vocal clip. It brings up a problem reporter window and show me where it has put a .dmp file, but it has gotten to the point that V-Vocal is unusable. Is this happening to anyone else?

I put in another problem report for this. All I heard last time was "we think this is a configuration issue", which is no help at all.

'm not sure if it will help, but try reading Bit's advice on using VVocal:

I froze a couple of soft synths and V-Vocal returned. I'm about to suspect that the number of 32-bit plugins I use may have something to do with it. Good to know that I can use it again, even with limitations.

It might be a limitation of your system, about which we know nothing.

Well Colin,

We know (or can sus) he uses bit bridge.

If freezing worked then you were likely maxing out your computer resources. A good way to keep an eye on things like this is to put the Performance Module into the Control bar. Just right click somewhere on the control bar and select Performance Module. It may not pop up the first time so click it again until it replaces one of the current modules. You'll see what procedures are maxing out your CPU and/or RAM. If you see things getting out of control freeze some stuff in your project or raise your audio buffers. I've never used VV but I'm pretty sure it's one of the more resource hogging components in Sonar.

I say this all the time (and already once today) but a good habit to get into is raising your buffers if you aren't actually recording something. Low latency does not matter when editing or mixing (usually).

Also if you are indeed using a lot of 32 bit plugs within Sonar 64 be sure to check for updates to those plug ins. Many companies have put out free updates to 64 bit versions of their plugs. It is much better than using BB. Also unless a 32 bit plug is crucial and/or irreplaceable to you then it's probably best to find an alternative that is 64 bit. Bitbridge is cool and all but should only be used if you have no other option. You could also check out Jbridge as an alternative to BB if some of your irreplaceable 32 bit plugs are acting up.

Cheers.

Not necessarily, freezing removes plug-ins from memory so it could be just the removal of a toxic plug-in and not the freeing of resources that is fixing the problem.

If you are running 32-bit you might consider going to 64 so you can use more memory.  Some soft synths take a lot of memory.

I found V-Vocal crashed some projects and not others.  I use Melodyne now because, even though it crashes sometimes, I found it to be less crashy and to have a better sound.  The monophonic (single-note version) is nonly $69 at most places.

I am not suggesting you should have to buy a new product: just something to consider.

Good to know.

I kind of want Nectar... but that's a pretty good price. Never really looked at the full capabilities of Melodyne. Now I will. Cheers.

I guess he's already using 64 bit, that's why he comments about using 32 bit plugs, and why Scook mentioned bitbridge.
