These are the generic meaning, it's not always the meaning for the softsynth that you are using.

There really is no generic synth. Part of the point in having more than one synth is that each allows you to do different things, and unfortunately that often means doing things in different ways. If you learn to play piano, you still have to do some extra work to learn how to play the flute.
