I'm starting a new project creating some YouTube tech video's. Pretty simple, so I'm thinking going with Premier and using X2 for the voice over stuff.

If you have any tips please jump in.

Regardless of which editor you go with, the principals are the same. I would offer that vegas is easier to pick up for the beginner but premier does offer a bit more overall. I have taught premiere even when I did not like it and most picked it up easily.

As far as using with Sonar, since the rpograms do not interface directly, it will be a matter of processing audio in sonar and then exporting to wav format to be imported into premiere.

If you think it would be helpful, I could walk through my workflow for different video scenarios if you think it would help

Hi, dub... Just taking a look at Premiere Elements and liking the price. I've never used video stuff before. How would one use Sonar to score a video in conjunction with Premiere? Like say I wanted to do a soundtrack and have orchestral stabs to accompany physical actions on screen or if I wanted to do foley type work that syncs up to the vid? Also what about VSTs like compressors for sidechaining so the music levels drop when there is dialog? Are they supported?

Just curious is all. Might start messing with this type of thing in the future. Cheers.

I'd like to know more about this actually, in terms of syncing vid and audio. I have premiere elements 11 and X2 and would live to know how to go about time coding things... Like what them there pros do ;-)

Beep..vst support for premiere is so-so at best and I don't think element supports vst at all. For pro this is no big deal since it integrates well with audition. Imho audio work in premiere is for the most part limited to simple tasks like laying already made soundbeds and effects and mixing them with vo and dialog. A more useful workflow for what you wish to accomplish would be to export your video from premiere to sonar, do all of your audio work and then import mastered final mix into premiere.

The pro version does offer very useful features for synching audio from multiple sources. A common example would be synching on camera audio with either audio recorded simultaneously via seperate recording or an ADR verion of audio that needs to replace orginal sound

Bibs..were you referring to visual timecode or something like SMPTE? Elements cannote generate time code. It does tones and bars and that's about it. Elements was designed for hobbyists. Synching in elements is mostly manual using tried and tru methods like visually matching up waveforms or cue sounds like a clapboard.

Thanks for answer. I was thinking anything that helped me score music to picture that I could hand to a 3rd party with me knowing that the music would all be in the right places without detailed instruction. I have adobe after effects, is something possible with this? Sorry, complete noob at this picture lark!
