Unless something has changed very recently, I find it very irksome that Premiere Pro does not support BPM for time code in its editor, which makes it irritating for making music-synced vids. Thats off topic, it just irks me :D

Going back to the OP's question, I'd go for doing all the work in the video editor and not use Sonar, unless you're generating a music backing track to play under it. Make the music as normal, export to .WAV, import to your video editor. If you're doing voiceover stuff, do that directly into the editor. Premiere will let you layer so you can get the right level of voice over the music, and while its mixing facilities are basic, they are more than adequate for getting the balance between voice-over and background music (if you're using any).

Sorry can't offer anything on Vegas as never used that.

It's not off-topic at all and you are not the only person who has made that request.  There are plugins that help with that sort of thing especially if you are also using After Effects.  My solution for this depends on how critical timing has to be.  If it does not have to sync down to the nanosecond, I simply let the music play through and create markers by taping the shortcut for marker to the beat (In Vegas it is "M" and in Premiere prior to CC it is the "*" key).  It literally takes the length of the song to set up your marks.  If ultra precise timing is needed I typically use a script in After Effects.

After checking out the options I realized that it was way easier to ditch Sonar for this work. Vegas Movie Studio and Premier both pick up the hardware correctly and Vegas also picks up all my VST plugs. All the work will get done in Vegas while Sonar watches from the sidelines. I tried importing some video into SOnar and it was a pain and added more complications. Definitely not the way to go if you are a noob like me.

Thanks to all for sharing your insights.

Good luck to both of you. I use Sonar for mastering and mixing my audio for video but I plan to start doing some experents with audiosnap with ADR to see if it trims some time. Audition and premiere's sync feature works great when audio source is identical but on seperate tracks but fails when source drifts. Yiur talent ends up sounding like T-Pain.
