In the mean time, I've inserted another track and dragged and dropped the 8 bar drum patterns. I've tried looking at the tutorials but found it confusing.
I've opened the synth rack and gotten the SD2 to play but cannot get it exported

Sound from SD2 will only export there is MIDI data on the MIDI or Simple Instrument Track and in the case of a MIDI track have Audio Track(s) associated with it. Playing SD2 by hand is for audition purposes only.

Yeah, I was trying to establish if his midi track is correctly routed to SD2.

@ ahmo

Try something.......

open a fresh blank project, insert SD2 as simple instrument track option and copy/paste the drum midi track data onto it. Does that work ?

Good idea, but SHS6 didn't have simple instrument tracks.
We can still roll with a new project, though.

Adam, for SD2 ( or any softsynth) to work in SHS6, you must have two important tracks.
The Synth Audio Output and the MIDI Source Track.
The Synth Audio Output brings the sound from the softsynth into Sonar. It is just like an audio track that you would use to record guitar, vocals, etc. DO NOT drag your patterns from SD2 into this track. It is an output, and the synth cannot read the MIDI data from here.
Be sure to drag the patterns to the MIDI track. It has the round icon that looks like a 5-pin DIN MIDI plug.
If you have SD2 inserted properly, it should look like this:

Be sure to hit the All tab(bottom left corner) so you can see all of your track options.
The most critical option is the MIDI track output. Be sure it is set to Session Drummer 2.
Channel 10 is the GM convention for drums, but it can be any channel. Here, I am using Channel 4.
Bank and Patch are not relevant with SD2.
If you have everything set up correctly, the synth will play when you hit the play button in the transport , or the spacebar.

I just remembered what I did last time. I mixed it down the old fashioned way on to a minidisc 4 track I had. Then bounced it back to my DAW. Thanks for the help. Now I know how to do it v

Thanks Rob B. I'll try it when I get some time this weekend. I work a ton of hours. Thank you so much for the help. I hope it works. It's much easier to use Session Drummer 2 than record drums for a quick fun project with my 9 year old daughter on vocals. Thanks again.

How do I get those tracks into my project?

Please walk me through it step by step.  I'm almost there, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel!!

To have drums:
1. you need to have 1 midi track "containing midi data" for drums.
2. You need to load up one Drum vst.
3. then you need to, go to the " drum miditrack " and set the output to the, drum vst.
and select channel 10 for the midi output.

you should now be able to hear the drums, if done right when you hit spacebar ( play ).

When exporting all the audio and vsti's, you first select all your tracks, (lit blue on the track numbers.)

then you go to: file-export-audio

be sure all the mix enables are selected,  ( besides the 64bit engine ? )

Select filetype / bit dept / sample rate. name your file.

Hit Export

Edit : Eeeek forgot its home studio ;-) , but i think it should be similar... , anyway hope this helps.
