I haven't used a vs-20 but I see Charlie has a video about setting it up. Haven't watched it myself but Charlie does some pretty good stuff. May help.

thanks steven for the props  :)

the best way to drag in just tracks, not a project, is to import the tracks from the guitar tracks folder to sonar,

this can be done by going to file/import/audio.
go to the directory in which you have your guitar tracks files and click on them, they will automatically go to the track you have highlighted.

if you have made edits and the tracks in your guitar tracks project are clips(have slices in them, bounce them to clips or export the project to tracks.

I know of one other guy who is very smart when it comes to the vs 20 as well.
his name is steve as well (different steve :)
he might offer a better option but I think this might be the best way.

My Strummy-sense is tingling

And I'm in full agreement with Charlie - select each track in turn and export it as a .wav file.

The only way to accomplish this in Guitar Tracks 4 (as opposed to the 'Pro' version) is like this (I've mocked up a three track project to use as an example):

  • In the Track View of your project, press the Solo button on the first track you wish to export. In this case I've soloed my Bass Guitar track:

  • On the Menu Bar, select: File > Export > Audio
  • On the screen that opens, do the following:
    1. In the Look In area at the top, navigate to the destination folder you want to export your tracks to
    2. In the File Name area, name your track
    3. In the Export Preset field, make sure you have Entire Mix - CD Quality selected from the drop-down options
    4. Click on Export

  • Now go back to your project, and Solo the next track you wish to export (remembering to turn off the solo button on the track you've just exported)
  • Repeat the solo/export procedure for each track in turn

Thanks Charlie

As fond as I am of my VS-20, I could never use GT4 for long without getting completely frustrated.

It's not a bad little program, but in my opinion, it's just too basic and limiting. The customer would be much better served by getting a version of (the quite excellent for the money) Music Creator bundled. But then again, I'm guessing that Cakewalk's idea was that if you purchased a VS-20, and tried out GT4, you'd soon yearn for a more sophisticated bit of software to compliment the excellent hardware you'd just got, and then they'd get another sale when the user upgrades to GT4Pro or another Cake product.

My 11 year old copy of GT2 is a much more competent program than GT4, aside from having to use audio drum samples/loops because it doesn't have MIDI support. Amazingly, my GT2 still runs without a hitch on my current PC (as do my GT2Pro & GT3Pro)!

Is there any particular reason why you are using Guitar Tracks 4 instead of recording the entire project including guitar and bass tracks in X2 Essential?

Does X2 Essential not work with the V-Studio 20? (X2 Producer certainly does, as did X1)

its the free software that comes with the vs 20 so for me anyway, its almost like, o well, its free might as well see what its like, samples, exc. ..lol.
so I installed it, but I don't use it, I use x2, im guessing the op did the same unless he had gt4 first then upgraded after and now wants to recover some old projects and import them in to x2.

but as Steve was saying I couldn't use that program for more than like 20 minutes.

well with out feeling like I wanted to go to my registry and delete every entry  :)

Yes, I know what Guitar Tracks 4 is, thanks, I've had the V-S 20 since day 1.

My question to the OP was why use GT4 rather than X2 Essential (which the OP also has) to record guitar and bass with the V-S 20 since afaik the V-S 20 works just fine with X2 Essential (as I do know it does with X2 PE).
