Dear Fiends,

This may seem unbelievable, but I have hit a new bottom in life that is beyond comprehension. There may be no hope. Only blackness on the horizon. My impulse is to reach out for sympathy and support, but realize that few of you can empathize with what is happening to me.

First indication that something was wrong was when new upgrades, new reverbs and eq's, new Kontakt libraries and channel strips failed to elicit a knee jerk rsponse to starve the family of food to buy the plugin. This has imposed a severe imbalance. Family is fed and the rent check is on time, but I'm several versions short of several upgrades.

As I fade off into oblivion, something even worse is happening. The symptoms are there, just no rational explanation.

I AM PASSING UP FREEWARE...

Free mellotron, free widener, free something, free channel strip, Indent free distortion ala Ilock. Meh...already got 50 of these.

It may be brain cancer or something in an advanced stage, but the economic engine will say that this is not normal.

Has anyone else had one of those moments where you can pass up a freebie.

Probably not...

Dismal on the coast,

John

I've been approaching the "enough is enough" mark...

I'm finally trying to sit down and learn what what I have does...
Still doesn't keep me from passing up freebies...but I'll get to
those if and when I "feel" it necessary...I've got 'em and if
they never get used...oh well...but I certainly know what you
mean...

Larry,

Thanks for reaching out to me in my hour of darkness.

Lost consciousness for about a half hour. Came out of the void and found myself surfing for free Kontakt libraries. Maybe all is not lost after all.

Yeah, most freebees these days make me go Meh! and I pass.

I think I got all the good one ages ago!

This is why Waves (and most others) are constantly having flash-one-day-no-brainer sales seemingly continuously.  And trying to come up with new or repackaged plugins at a feverish pace.

We are all saturated.  Sated.  Falling down drunk.  Engorged. Just one more tiny thin wafer...on plugins and virtual instruments.

And now...they can't even give stuff away.

It was inevitable.

Wait...is that a multi-band limiting equalizing filtered chorus reverb flanger over there??  It's so....bright...and shiny...check out the GUI on that thing.  Hubba hubba!!

What was I saying again?

Thanks guys,

Gives me hope that a very few might understand the slowly developing disease of vst/vsti apathy. Have to warn that in the later stages, the condition may gradually spread to even freeware.

Family is at least happy that I haven't mortgaged the house for the last several months as I waste away.

Allah have pity on us in our terminal decline.

I don't buy nearly as much as I used, and I've been selling a bunch on KVR in an effort to pair down to a core set up plugins. Granted, it's still a big core set. :) Freebies don't excite me at all anymore, and I'm getting better at only buying something when it will truly add to what I'm working on.

I'm not perfect about it, but very much better! :)

Amen sisters and Brothers. I almost look in the direction of freebies as if they were turds.. Ive gone as far as decided that the next computer reinstallation Im only installing what I use. There are still stuff I want. I need the u-he stuff like Diva and presswerk. But I want them. Still got urges. But theres just SO much stuff I never use.

John,
I have bad news for you.  As difficult as this is going to sound I think it's a sign of . . . maturity.  I know, I know, it's hard to hear; but it's time to face facts.  The next sign will be a be desire to purchase a mini-van.  Sadly, there's no cure.  It will only get worse as you grow older.  Soon you will be complaining about how terrible teenagers are and how much more responsible and dependable we were at that age.

Please accept my sympathies.
