  • Should I Put Together a Second Book of SONAR Tips with the Remaining Tips? (p.5)

Hi Craig,
Maybe this is a crazy idea, but what about a book indexed off of how to do a particular task (or maybe tips?) in different DAWs (rather than a book that is specific to one DAW)? It would probably be on heck of a maintenence job with updates, but hey, that sounds like more editions and $$$ for your work. If you are already familiar with a number of DAWs, the job might be a bit less daunting.
Dumb idea, maybe, sorta????

opps - I see someone already mentioned this - hey it's not so crazy after all

Hey Craig,
Will it come with lifetime updates? Only Kidding! I have the first bit tip book and the EQ book. Sign me up for the 2nd Tips book. I would also be interested in SO 3 tips.

Yes, definitely. But how to pay may be a problem.

Your last book went through the Cakewalk site and I was able to pay at my post office.

I'd buy it.
Can you also put together a Studio One tips?  I'd buy that too!

Ditto here, Craig.

I'd focus on that collaboration you mentioned with Presonus and do a big book of tips for Studio One instead Craig:) Growing market there.

Its been a great 25 years but it's time I moved on.

Wishing you only the best Craig, and I'll see you on the other side!

I was thinking the same thing, a book for Sonar users transitioning to Studio One.

Absolutely!

At this point you're like that ancient scribe chipping away at the Rosetta Stone, without which Egyptian hieroglyphs would likely still be indecipherable to this day. SONAR will continue on long after the elders have gone and taken their knowledge with them. (My prediction: it's eventually going to be unlocked, after which it will effectively fall into the public domain. It will then become the leading free DAW in the world, a favorite among young producers with more ambition than cash. At that time the great CW documentation will be their bible, and your collection the new testament.)

OK, so maybe you won't be the subject of study two thousand years from now. But for another decade, anyway. Go for it.

Most folks here in the SONAR forum seem to be saying "yes, I'd buy it," but the minority who have said "don't bother writing a book about SONAR, I'm moving on" probably speak for a larger group of real-world musicians, hobbyists and professional studio types. I intend to keep SONAR running on my production machine as long as practical, but what education budget I have (not much ) will have to go to learn the new DAW, whatever that turns out to be. Craig, your input here and over the decades has been invaluable, but if you are asking, I say add a few SONAR tips when the mood strikes on your own website, and focus your future publishing work on your music and on software that is still "alive."

Good analogy.
And if SONAR should end up in the public domain, probably some super-geek (with access to AI) will reverse engineer it and there will be new versions and features, a la Linux or Libre Office.
