Make money on the way up and make money on the way down. Sonar's been good to you.

That's an incredible display of ignorance.

  • Here's what I made from  "The Big Book of SONAR Tips": $0.00
  • Here's what I made from "Equalization De-Mystified": $0.00
  • Here's what I made from the content I contributed to the updates: $0.00.
  • Here's what I made from answering questions and providing support on the forums: $0.00.
  • Here's what I made from doing all the editing and acidization of the Hardgroove Bass loop library and Bart Walsh's Rock Anthems loop library (as well as the loops I contributed): $0.00.
  • Here's what I made from writing Friday's Tip of the Week: $0.00
  • Here's what I made from putting together the eZine: Part of it was covered by my Gibson salary, but most of it was done on weekends and evenings. Do you have any idea how much time and effort it takes to put together a monthly 60-page eZine? Try it sometime, you'll find out.

So why did I do all this? Because I loved the program and wanted Cakewalk to succeed. And I also felt that with a few notable exceptions, this is an exceptionally good and helpful community. The appreciation it gave for what I did was worth more than money.

I'm asking if people want me to put together second book. I don't see anyone holding a gun to your head. I know it won't sell a lot; I'll probably end up making less per hour than if I spent the same amount of time being a greeter at Wal-Mart.

So why am I offering to do this book? I don't think you (or Paulo for that matter, whose big contribution to this thread was to make your wildly inaccurate post as "helpful), could understand the answer.

Note: I did make money on the SONAR books I wrote before joining Gibson, and I do make money writing the Sound on Sound SONAR column (on my own time). I will happily give up trying to make a living if you pay my bills. PM me for direct deposit information. Thank you.

We used to have access to all the tips for free, including the comments and observations. Somebody deleted them all. I wonder why?

Aha! Well that explains a lot, you can't read.  I've already explained why multiple times. Oh and by the way, if you could read, you would know that I incorporated relevant comments from the community, with full attribution (and the user names even highlighted in a different color to draw attention to them and give credit where credit is due), in the body text of the tips to which those comments related. I also included individual tips contributed by the community to the previous thread at the beginning of the new thread. They were not deleted either. (However, I did delete all the "Great tip, thanks!," "Thanks for presenting these tips, very helpful," "That tip of yours saved my mix," etc. because I felt they were a distraction from the information. So sue me.)

Obviously I didn't delete the thread so I could make money from the book. Doh. It's unfortunate you didn't figure that out before writing your previous post, because all you managed to do was make your claim about all the money I made from Cakewalk look even more ridiculous.

By the way I had nothing to do with the removal of the current Friday's Tip of the Week thread.

Hey Paulo - can you do me a favor, and mark his previous post as "helpful" too? I want people to see my responses.

As for the rest of you...I worked on the new book for 16 hours straight yesterday. I contacted Reverb.com and they said they'd be happy to list it once I finish it.

NOTE: They got the price wrong on "The Big Book of SONAR Tips" and listed it for $9.95 instead of $14.95 because $9.95 was also the price of the "Equalization De-Mystified" book. They are going to adjust it at some point, but they are obligated to fulfill orders at the current price until they change it.

Craig - I've been a fan of yours since I was a teen reading Guitar Player, to 1998-99 seeing you in Leo's Pro Audio at a Ramsa DA7 ADAT seminar to watching you cheer Sonar. I can't imagine your disappointment now that it's discontinued. You're such an outstanding music journalist and teacher, I just know whatever you do next will be GREAT! I'm a longtime Pro Tools user but lately I've really gotten to know and like PreSonus Studio One Pro. If I were you, I'd call up Rick Naqvi and discuss possibilities. Also I'd love to hear you as a guest or featured member with Russ Hughes on the Pro Tools Expert podcast. YouTube video tutorials and live broadcasts are where it's at these days and if you made them a regular thing, I'd definitely be watching. Be well and if you're ever in Portland, Oregon, I'd consider it a great honor to buy you a beer and shake your hand!

Best regards,

Justin Arey

The thread was not removed, the sticky flag was turned off. My guess is Noel wanted the sticky area for official announcements only.

You know Craig, I could have have been wrong, but after your tearful tirade and name calling, I'm not feeling so bad. I'm sure that whatever charitable organization  receiving the proceeds from the books you listed is extremely grateful.

You should realise that when you do something from the heart, you're not supposed to run around and tell people how much you've given for nothing. By rights, Gibson owns everything that is posted on the their forum, including this thread.

I won't get involved in a lengthy flame war about this. You said your piece, I said mine. I hope book #2 is as successful as #1.
