Steve Hackett used Superior on his last two albums, and they sounded great. I'm pretty sure that most people had no idea that it wasn't a drummer. My first electronic kit was a Simmons SDS 7. At the time I was amazed at the sound. It's funny to hear it now. I've tried many since, but haven't found anything that sounds as good as the Toontrack stuff. Now, if I could only cure my addiction to buying expansion packs..

Ha! Yeah, gotta love the expansion packs. And you're right, I doubt if most (or any) regular listeners would be able to tell the difference from real or top-quality virtual instruments (as long as they're played/programming correctly). Maybe some musicians and drummers can tell... but I think it would depend on the quality of the performance and the mix.

Oh, although the sale is over on BFD Eco a lot of places still have it for that sale price of $29 so you might want to lighten the load on your credit card.
Here some cheaper options Eco Cheapo!!

All of these are in the UK but since it's a download only it shouldn't matter what country your in

Holy carp! $29 is insane. Even if you end up going for another drum program you'd be crazy not to snag BFD Eco for that price. I thought when I paid $50 for it was crazy cheap for what you get. Now if they could just go bargain basement on the full version upgrade like that (and I could have the money at the right time) I'd be set.

Also if you do end up with BFD keep an eye out for the Zildgian Digital Vault packs. Between the free Rock Legends kit I got as a bonus from the sale when I bought Eco and the ZDV pack I snagged for under $30 I've got the perfect kit options for what I do. The cymbals included with Eco are okay but the DV stuff blows them out the water and you get a lot more stick options and more velocity layers making them much more dynamic and realistic.

Those 3 DV packs have since been turned in to one single pack that's normally £95 but until the end of July is half price (as are all their expansion packs) so you can get it for £48 ($75) I'm not sure how much they were individually but I'm sure they would have come to a lot more than £95 if I'd bought all three back when you got yours.

Wow, thanks to all of you... To answer Twaddles question, one of the reasons I'm looking for a new plugin, is that I only seem to have fully closed, or fully open hi hat sounds when I record using my v drums. It makes for a very unrealistic sounding set of hats. I'm hoping that the plugin ins you guys have recommended have the ability to let me actually "Play" my hats. Am I correct or am I missing something in my set up?

Damn. Gotta save up to move again so all spending is halted at the moment. I would like to get the remaining two packs considering how good this one is. Back then I didn't realize there were other packs available but I don't think they were on sale anyway. Those things were supposedly over $200 for one pack originally! I wouldn't personally say they were worth that much but they are bleepin' nice. You wouldn't be able to get those sounds anywhere else though so I could see a pro studio dropping that kind of cash to have them available.

Hmm... I think there is a section in SD3 where you can set three different hi hat states and adjust how they respond to the controller pedal... but maybe not. In BFD you can set that stuff though. I wish I could afford a V-Drum kit but that stuff is PRICEY. Gotta just work with my padKontrol if I want live input.

If the articulations are there and they are mapped for your kit then they should all play as you would expect them to.
I'm not an edrummer but I do know that much
All of the others, Eco, Addictive Drums, superior drummer and EZdrummer play well with V-drums I think.

As I said, you can download a fully working demo of BFD2 if you register with them.
It has some limitations like only one kit and less effects and you may even have to set up your own keymap for your V-drums as it might not be included in the demo.

Beepster, if there is , I can't find it.... Drum mapping, instrument defs and so on, are hard on this old mans head.  I think there are 3 or 4 different midi note numbers that correspond to different hat openings and closings in sd3, but its beyond me to figure out how to make them work. My brain is fried..... Ive read some of the cakewalks tutorials on setting up definitions, maps and so on, but I'm not even sure if thats what i need. This is tough stuff to me.... It would be great if someone had a video covering v-drums(Roland) and Sonar X(Roland) and how to use them with plug ins. There are 5 videos on the web that do, but they are in Spanish.  No habla Espanol..
