There are a couple ways to have Waves plug-ins 'scanned' and included with your plug-ins.

  • Add the folder where Waves installs the WavesShell-VST XXX.dll to Cakewalk's VST scan folder list.
On my system thats "C:\Program Files (x86)\VstPlugIns" and "C:\Program Files\VstPlugIns"

    or
  • copy the WaveShell file (for example WaveShell-VST 9.2_x64.dll) to a subfolder that is in one of the folders of your scan folder list.

Personally I preferred the second because I think it gives me more control over which Waves versions are known to Sonar.

If you don't want 32 bit Waves plug-ins in Sonar make sure the 32 bit WavesShell-VST is not located in one of your VST scan paths. Then as previously said... rescan.

That's basically what I did when I installed them...the 32-bit WavesShell .dll is not in my scan path. Yet I still have issues with visibility. Recently I installed Aphex and Sonar wouldn't recognize it. So I did what someone suggested and run the Waves installer and select "repair." That seemed to fix the issue. But sometime over the last couple of days the damn thing has just spontaneously disappeared again

I also installed Element and Sonar will not see that no matter what I do.

Yup. First up the VRM box then either an upgrade from BFD Eco or the Mark Bass depending on sales/personal finances. I'm starting to get interested in Jamstix now too because of that other thread going on now. I wanna jam some blues and frankly I don't feel like trying to meticulously program drums to achieve just the right feel.

Dammit Beepster now I want it as well. There's so many things that I'm drooling for at the minute and they all seem to be $99...NOT good! Maybe if I just give up food for a month....

Have you tried any of the Groove Monkee MIDI patterns? I bought a bunch of those quite cheap a while ago and I've gotten a lot of use out of them. They're great if you need some basic patterns to start with that you intend to tweak and customize to your needs. I think there's some free demo ones for download as well.

For those interested in Groove Monkey MIDI loops, Scott Garrigus's most recent newsletter had a buy one get on free offer from Groove Monkey. Back to the sea story.

Heh. As much as I yammer on about stuff here I haven't had much chance to really dig at the guts of stuff like the Groove Monkees and other whatsamawhosits. As you probably know I'm more rock/audio oriented than MIDI. I've perused some of the loops I've got at my disposal and they give me ideas but the damned things seem to veer of into left field at just the wrong point in time. I do know how tame them now but I've started working on getting long overdue albums (which were recorded ages ago) sorted out and before that was an epic crash course in actually using all this stuff. Now I have to freaking move again which has sapped all my brainspace and time.

IDK... I know I can work with what I've got and build my own patterns but there is something kind of enticing about just inputting a structure and having an invisible drummer to jam to. The fact I can edit the MIDI afterward really makes beeple go bop.

Anyway... I'm actually a little tipsy right now (rarity these days) so excuse my loopiness... no pun intended... or maybe it was. ;-)

What? You have to move again? That sucks!

Yes. I am really REALLY angry about it. Trying to stay calm though.

Waves and Sonar X2 does not play well on my system either.  I'm sure with there is a secret as to why, held within the dozens of automatic crash reports they have generated.  Also, Ozone has been running into issues with X2 as well.  It was stable on the previous versions (8.5/X1)
