When I called NI about GR4 Sonar they seemed annoyed. This was shortly before the release of X2 (when you guys switched to Overloud for your included amp sim... which of course I had no way of knowing at the time). He was rather rude actually even though the question was regarding me upgrading to GR5 which would see dollars put directly into their pockets.

Kind of like a spurned ex lover. lol

Hosts should be aware of plugin formats and compatibility issues obviously but I think the bulk of that responsibility should be on the plug manufacturers... at least for the more commonly used DAWs which I'd say Sonar qualifies as. I mean if your stuff doesn't work in the environments people use well...

That said I've never had a problem with GR5. I don't own any Waves stuff though. Hope you get it sorted, sharke.

Depends on which GUI problem you are referring to. The one where moving knobs on waves plugins wouldn't set the parameters properly and be inaccurate is fixed. That was a feedback loop.
BTW if you have someone at NI who claims that the GR lost params problem is a host problem please have them contact me. I would like a chance to dispute that claim :) If its our issue of course I will try and fix it.
We have been spending a lot of time addressing compatibility problems so we always welcome contact with plugin vendors.

I have two basic problems with the Waves GUI's. First of all is the SuperTaps one where the tap sliders kind of spring around as if they're on elastic when you move them. It's as if they're trying to break free from your grasp, and when you leave them somewhere they bounce to another position. The second problem is just a general lack of responsiveness with knobs and parameter dragging. When you drag something, whether it be a knob or a numerical value or an EQ node, it will frequently get stuck and you have to stop dragging and start again. Oftentimes it'll take 3 or 4 attempts to get to the value I want. These problems still persist for me in X2a. As I mentioned, they went away briefly after a gfx card update, but they're back with a vengeance today.

It was forum user Giannis who reported that NI told him it was a Sonar issue (the post in the link). So far they haven't told me that yet, although I will be sure to direct them to you if they do. But I do find it dishonest of them to claim that it's not a "known issue" when it has apparently been reported to them before.

Thanks Beepster. I don't doubt that bad feeling exists from a company after a partnership like that is dropped...it must sting a little to have your product dropped from a DAW package although that must go on all the time (nothing is forever).

I wouldn't blame either side as long as they were working together on the issue - after all it's in both of their best interests to sort these things out.

Noel,
Does this include the issue where you may have to pull or push a knob/slider on a Waves plug-in multiple times because it simply stops responding to the mouse from a single click-drag?

Sharke, from your description both your Waves issues have been addressed - I worked around them at our end. Supertap was broadcasting parameter values back to the host when you moved a slider causing a feedback loop. The other general sluggishness was also a similar sort of problem.
As I mentioned earlier we're been working very closely with Waves so if you see Waves/sonar interop issues please file specific issues with both companies to make sure the right people see it. Posting it on the forum is not your best avenue for support.

Sorry, I thought this was an issue nearly everybody was seeing. I guess I should add that Sonar support is not available when I am, unfortunately.

I just thought it was kind of a funny story. After chatting with the Cake guys on the phone before that on an unrelated issue it felt a little weird how the dude at NI was kind of surly. I was trying to get off the phone with Cake support so as not to waste their time and once it seemed like things were wrapped up I thanked him and said my goodbyes. Seemed like he wanted to keep shooting the sh*t. Nice fellow. NI guy just seemed cranky and it didn't really make sense but after X2 came out I thought maybe they weren't too keen on giving the upgrade discount to something I got for free on a marketing partnership that had gone south. I'm probably reading too much into it but I got a laugh out of it. Maybe the guy was just hungover or something.

I really like GR and if I ever have the money would buy more NI stuff (some of the Kontact stuff might be cool) but I find TH2 to be a much better guitar sim for my needs. GR5 still gets used for my bass tracks though. If I can ever get the money together for Mark II however that will likely change.

As far as compatibility that's one thing I don't understand. I thought if it's in one of the standard formats like VST shouldn't it just work if both companies stick to the proper coding guidelines?

Great, I look forward to seeing the fix! I did actually report the issue to Waves some time ago and they said that they were going to work with Sonar to get to the root of the problem (they were able to reproduce the issue as I described).

Don't know about how the VST format works but I'm guessing (like everything else) that there is more to it than meets the eye, that would only become apparent if you were a coder who knows about these things. Regardless of guidelines, I wouldn't be surprised if there was still a fair amount of hackery and workarounds afoot.

I have Mark and it's a fantastic amp - I'm not that keen on the effects pedals you get with it (there are only about 5 I think) but the rest of it is certainly very cool. I like to put it on a send bus with the gain and distortion maxed out, and mix a little bit of it in with the dry signal. It really puts an edge on your bass. You should definitely keep any eye on any sales that come up.

Yup. First up the VRM box then either an upgrade from BFD Eco or the Mark Bass depending on sales/personal finances. I'm starting to get interested in Jamstix now too because of that other thread going on now. I wanna jam some blues and frankly I don't feel like trying to meticulously program drums to achieve just the right feel.
